I love Moscow Mules! I reckon I say this about most cocktails, but there is something about mules that I just love. I love that they’re so refreshing and light, but also love the fact they come together so easy. With a few simple ingredients, you can have a beautiful cocktail in hand!

A classic cocktail gets a farmers market makeover!

While I love the traditional flavors of Moscow Mules, sometimes I love to jazz it up a little bit and experiment with some new flavor combinations. If you’ve never experienced strawberry and Basil before, you’re in for a treat! Strawberry and basil go so well together, and are the flavors of summer that I can’t get enough of! With the summer strawberry season in full swing, and my basil plant thriving, it was definitely time to make these gorgeous basil strawberry Moscow Mules.

If you’re unfamiliar with a traditional Moscow Mule, it’s a combination of vodka, lime juice, and ginger beer. That’s it! Nothing else to it! They are quite possibly the easiest cocktails to make in the world. Not to say that this basil Strawberry Moscow Mule isn’t the easiest cocktail to make either!

How to Make A Basil Strawberry Moscow Mule

It’s so easy to make this basil strawberry Moscow Mule recipe. All you need to do is add one simple step to the original mule recipe, and that is muddling together the strawberries and basil.

In your mule mug, you’ll want to put in two ripe strawberries that are halved, your lime juice, and 2-3 basil leaves. With a cocktail muddler (or handle of a wooden spoon), you’ll want to gently muddle the strawberries, lime, and basil together, releasing the flavors into the mug. I muddled for a few minutes until the strawberries were almost broken down into a liquid.

Apart from that, like most cocktails, you’ll want to use good quality ingredients. I love using a spicy ginger beer because it adds an extra kick to the flavor of this summer cocktail! Traditionally, these mules are served in copper mugs as they are able to keep your cocktail nice and cool. If you don’t have Moscow Mule mugs, a regular glass is fine also.

This strawberry Moscow Mule with basil is best served with cold ginger beer, over ice, and best sipped outside under the sun!

Cheers to the last month of summer!

  • 4 strawberries
  • 4-8 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3 oz vodka
  • 12 oz bottle of good quality ginger beer
  • ice for serving
  • extra strawberries and basil for serving

Instructions

  1. In two mugs or glasses, divide the strawberries, basil and lime juice and muddle together the strawberries, basil, and lime juice until the strawberries start to breakdown to liquid. Leave a few strawberry chunks though.
  2. Add 1.5 oz of vodka to each mug then top with the ginger beer.
  3. Add ice and garnish with strawberries and basil, or extra lime wedges.

Notes

Home Chef Tip: The recipe yields two drinks, and ingredient quantities are meant to be divided between two glasses. This makes a beautiful mocktail too! Simply omit the vodka for a super refreshing summer drink.
