If blueberries aren’t your thing, but chocolate and peanut butter is, check out my peanut butter chocolate chunk nice cream. It’s so decadent without the guilt!
You don’t need the cream, dairy, or sugar that is called for in normal ice cream recipes. The banana does it all! Bananas make such a creamy base for our faux ice cream. Their natural sugars also make this creamy dessert sweet enough without any added sugar. Today we’re making a Blueberry Banana
nice cream which contains…you guessed it…blueberries and bananas! That’s really all you need for a sweet and healthy dessert. I like to add three to four tablespoons of non-dairy milk like unsweetened almond milk to make my nice cream smoother for blending, but you really don’t even need to do that.
The key here is you want to use bananas that are starting to brown. Those bananas you would normally reserve for banana bread make blueberry banana nice cream instead! If you use bananas that are green or purely yellow, the banana nice cream won’t be very sweet and will have sort of a starchy taste. So brown spots are good!
Does Banana Nice Cream Really Taste Like Ice Cream?
Well… yes and no. It’s not exactly like your typical ice cream. In fact, you can definitely taste the bananas in banana nice cream, obviously. However, the creaminess is so reminiscent of ice cream, you’ll enjoy every bite! You can eat banana nice cream straight from the food processor for more of a soft serve consistency. My favorite way to eat banana nice cream is to let the blended blueberry banana nice cream freeze for an extra few hours so it becomes a scoop-able texture, more like a typical ice cream. The best part is you can feel GOOD about eating this banana nice cream for dessert because there’s nothing that’s bad for you in it!
Blueberry Banana Nice Cream Recipe
Blueberries make this easy banana nice cream perfect for spring and summer. This time of year, berries are abundant at both the farmers market and the grocery store, and they’re just so flavorful. I just freeze some of my berries to include in this banana nice cream. If you can’t find fresh blueberries by you, use frozen berries from the freezer section at your grocery store. They work beautifully in this recipe too!
