A coffeehouse favorite with an adults-only twist, this 5-ingredient Boozy Salted Butterscotch Latte is so simple to make. Perfect for Sunday Brunch or Happy Hour, this classy coffee cocktail is the best of both worlds!

If you are anything like me then you have a tough time deciding between two of your favorite recipes. Sometimes you are in the mood for pasta AND tacos or maybe your taste buds are craving pizza AND buffalo chicken! When those cravings hit, I like to make mashup recipes like my BBQ Fried Chicken Tacos.

In this case, we really couldn’t decide between a cocktail or coffee after dinner so I combined the two to make this Boozy Salted Butterscotch Latte instead. This isn’t the first time either. If you liked my Spiced Cold Brew Cocktail with spice-infused vodka and almond milk ice cubes, then you will love this warm, coffee cocktail too. This classy drink is so good, it’s also perfect for Sunday Brunch or Happy Hour at home with friends.

Make your own salted butterscotch syrup!

The star of this coffee cocktail is the Salted Butterscotch syrup. Butterscotch is very similar to caramel in that they are both cooked sugars. The difference is that butterscotch is made with brown sugar and caramel is made from regular granulated sugar.

Butterscotch typically isn’t made with alcohol even though it’s implied in the name. That didn’t seem fair so I made my own version with a dash of scotch! Check out my Home Chef Tip for a boozy salted butterscotch syrup that is a delicious dessert topping!

  • 4 oz espresso
  • 2 oz quality scotch or bourbon
  • 2 tbsp salted butterscotch syrup
  • 3 oz almond milk, warmed and frothed
  • Kosher salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Add coffee, scotch, and butterscotch syrup to a mug. Stir gently to combine.
  2. Carefully pour warm almond into mug, reserving foam.
  3. Stir, then top with foam. Serve immediately.

Notes

Home Chef Tip: To make Salted Butterscotch Sauce, melt 1/4 cup butter in a heavy bottom sauce pan. Stir in 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, 2 oz quality scotch, and 1/2 cup heavy cream. Bring to a low boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer five minutes stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Salt to taste once cooled slightly. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
