Saying Goodbye to Fall (Almost)

Like everyone, my favorite part about Fall is the foliage. When you think about it, it’s kind of weird to enjoy that part because it’s basically the leaves just dying. It almost represents the world beginning to die for a little while and being born again in the Spring, at least in New England.

The Fall has many amazing qualities; the chilly air after a hot summer, the growing desire to drink hot cocoa or warm apple cider, crunching the leaves, the start of the holiday season, etc. It’s the happiest time of year for me.

The month of October is one of my favorites. I’m obsessed with Halloween. I decorate my house until there’s Halloween-themed decorations in every room. I buy my costume almost a month before the holiday. I watch the 13 days of Halloween on FreeForm or Fright Fest on AMC. I try to go to at least one haunted house. This year I even hosted a Halloween party. I’m honestly not even sure why I like it so much, maybe because I have a dark mind that no one really knows about?

After Halloween is a small depression for me. I either get into the Christmas spirit too soon and everyone gets annoyed with me or I try to pass the time until after Thanksgiving as best I can.

After Thanksgiving, I fall back in love with time because Christmas sneaks right up on us all, so I try to enjoy every moment. With Christmas comes the feeling of magic in the world. Mostly, this holiday brings happiness upon everyone. Even if people are stressed from gift-giving or seeing their estranged families, everyone feels a little bit of Christmas magic in their souls. The magic I’m talking about is feeling like a child again, believing Santa Claus will actually come down your chimney on Christmas Eve night. It also feels like all the bad things in my life, feelings of stress, depression and anxiety are temporarily barred from my mind. It’s really an amazing feeling – I wish it was like this all year round.

For now, I’ll enjoy the second half of Fall and happily anticipate the Christmas magic.
