Honey Chicken

Have you ever thought of giving Honey Chicken a try? There are a great deal of classics in the culinary world that come from a history of experimenting, and finding the best blend of ingredients together. Now we are familiar with some tried and tested methods with certain ingredients. Some well-known examples include pan-searing a good, thick steak, or stir-frying the most vibrant, crunchy vegetables.

But of course, one massively loved way to cook chicken is frying it to a golden brown crisp with a juicy, salty flavor. However, adding a unique texture and flavor– sticky and sweet (similar to this version of chicken adobo) is one twist to the classic I can also recommend.

While the classic fried chicken remains a crowd favorite, this rendition has grown quite popular in Asia. This is likely because of the resemblance it has to many other styles of coating fried chicken that are popular in the region. It definitely bears some likeness to the sweet and sour variation. And it is also similar to soy garlic chicken in terms of flavor and consistency.

But there is a one of a kind appeal that Honey Chicken arguably has, and it is almost self-explanatory. Honey plays a great role in bringing our fried chicken to life, with some subtle notes of sweetness that go spectacularly well with our other seasonings of choice. This includes our somewhat fiery, and salty ginger powder, as well as pepper and garlic powder. It also, of course, is delightfully sticky, which works complementary to the undeniable crisp of the chicken.

But honey, as well as some other ingredients, also play quite a part in improving one’s health!

Honey has actually historically been used for medicinal purposes. And so it should come as no surprise that it could be very good for you! For one, it is a great substitute for refined sugar with 100% empty calories.
And it is also rich in nutrients, as high-quality honey contains a large amount of antioxidants like organic acids. Antioxidants can also help lessen one’s risk of getting heart attacks and strokes. Furthermore, they can be of great benefit for one’s eye health. Multiple studies have also shown that honey can aid in your cholesterol levels. And it helps reduce LDL cholesterol that could heighten risk for heart disease.

And on the other hand, we also use up a great part of the chicken for our recipe. It is great in a way wherein you get to eat something deliciously crunchy and flavorful, while reaping some health benefits! Chicken breast has less fat, but a great amount of protein to keep you energized. In fact, studies have shown that usually a small chicken breast has 55 percent of your recommended protein intake, based on a 2,000 calorie diet daily.

Chicken, in general, is also rich in vitamin D, calcium, iron, and vitamin B. It also has less sodium, and has twice or thrice more polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fat than some types of red meat. Now if we’ve got you persuaded to add some Honey Chicken to your meals of the day, I have just the recipe!

Come with me to make some deliciously crisp Honey Chicken!

We will be starting off by making our marinade in a bowl. Inside this, place ½ teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of ginger powder, ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon of pepper, and 2 ½ tablespoons of water. But of course, we will also be needing our 1 lb. of cubed chicken breast for this. Stir all of your ingredients together, and then marinate the chicken for 10 minutes.

Now we will be moving on to our frying batter. Gather ¾ cup of all-purpose flour, ½ cup of cornstarch, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, ⅔ cup of water, ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon of salt, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of oil, and 2 cups of oil for frying in a large bowl. Proceed to whisk these together thoroughly, and continue to do so until you get a smooth batter.

After this, it’s time to put our marinated chicken and batter together. Mix the chicken cubes from earlier into the batter until the meat has been fully coated with our thick mixture.

We can now go ahead and prepare to cook our chicken!

Heat a pan, then pour 2 cups of oil with your stove on medium to high heat. Then when the oil is hot, you can start to place your battered chicken cubes inside one at a time, and do this gently. You must make sure that the cubes don’t stick together when you drop them into the pan.

Then keep on frying these for approximately 7 minutes to 8 minutes, or once your chicken has become an enticingly crunchy golden brown. And in a pan, pour 5 tablespoons of ketchup, ¼ cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of water, and 2 tablespoons of honey. This will make up our honey sauce! Let the ingredients boil, and then start adding your fried chicken cubes.

Place some toasted sesame seeds inside as well, and mix them well. Now you have a gorgeous batch of Honey Chicken cubes to serve for family and friends! Make sure to have them while they’re fresh and hot off the pan.
