Doors of Change Solving Youth Homelessness

Since 2001, Doors of Change™ Solving Youth Homelessness has been transforming the lives of homeless youth, one young person at a time. Originally called Photocharity, the 501(c)(3) has raised over $4.7 million. For more than 20 years we have helped place over 2,200 homeless youth in safe housing and off the streets.

In 2013 the agency identified a significant gap in the services and resources available to “transitional–age-youth” (those between the ages of 16 and 25) and decided to re-brand as Doors of Change™ and deliver a unique service to address this critical need. We work with youth ages 17-25 years old.

Recognizing that trust is often a significant barrier for youth in need of services, Doors of Change™ selected music and art as a non-threatening way to engage young people living on the streets.

By offering music and art instruction in a small group setting, youth are given the opportunity to explore their feelings and challenges through the arts, achieve a sense of mastery for the first time, develop social skills that are positive and constructive, and create a vision for the future that is filled with possibility.

As with many event the COVID pandemic took it’s toll and during that period Doors of Change Solving Youth Homelessness had to change they way that they did things. This week was the first live fund raiser concert in two years and what a cracker it was.

As we have been doing for the past 18 years Rotisserie Affair Catering sponsored the food for the VIP event that preceded the concert. There were many great products and services up for auction and a large sum of money was raised.

Following the auction the event was open to the public. The were great presentations by folks who had come through the system. From once being homeless to now having great jobs some even having put themselves through college. Telling their stories about Doors of Change Solving Youth Homelessness.

Back to The Garden the outstanding tribute band then put on an excellent show with cover versions of music from the 70’s and 80’s. If that wasn’t good enough they were followed by 3 Dog Night still strutting their stuff as they have been since they got together in 1967. It’s did not take long before the appreciative crowd were up on their feet dancing the night away.

Doors of Change Solving Youth Homelessness is a wonderful cause. Should you wish to donate please visit their website.
