Seasonal Catering

Yes it’s again time to start thinking about your Seasonal Catering requirements. Thanksgiving is but weeks away and Christmas will be here before you know it.

Are we going to the family out of state or are they all going to be coming to us?

Whatever the arrangements the masses need to eat and you need to start thinking about your seasonal catering plan.

When the holidays finally arrive, instead of enjoying the day, the hosts are slaving away in the kitchen preparing a family feast. This year, take the day off and cater in some fantastic food. Our seasonal catering menu is designed specially for Thanksgiving, Christmas or any other holiday event that you are planning. Our staff will provide delicious food with all the trimmings in a stress free environment, so that your gathering with loved ones will be a great success.

The Origins of Thanksgiving

The Pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving began at some unknown date between September 21 and November 9, most likely in very early October. The date of Thanksgiving was probably set by Lincoln to somewhat correlate with the anchoring of the Mayflower at Cape Cod, which occurred on November 21, 1620.

Today, our Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November. This was set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 (approved by Congress in 1941), who changed it from Abraham Lincoln’s designation as the last Thursday in November (which could occasionally end up being the fifth Thursday, and hence too close to Christmas for businesses).

We know that the Native Americans shared with the early settlers in this celebration. In the Northeast of the United States Cranberries grew wild and the Native Americans used them not only eating but for dye for their clothing, rugs and blankets. So this is probably when cranberries started becoming such a rich Thanksgiving tradition.

Christmas meals around the world

While Christmas dinner wouldn’t look too different from what you’re used to in Canada or the United Kingdom (save for the appearance of mince pies or Christmas pudding on the table), things begin to look pretty different once you travel beyond English-speaking countries.

In Romania, for example, traditional Christmas Dinner Includes piftie (aspic with pork and vegetables), cârnaţi (pork sausages), and sarmale (pickled meat-stuffed cabbage rolls).

In Portugal, bacalhau (dried and salted cod) is a main component, along with roasted goat and lamb and boiled octopus.

And in Jamaica, Traditional Christmas Dinner includes curry goat, rice and peas, and a heavy fruit cake made with wine and rum.

While we could at a push rustle up something like these unusual dishes, for our San Diego customers we tend to go the more traditional route from one of our menu menu options.
