French Stuffed Baked Apples

A delicious dessert that hails from the French country side, stuffed baked apples are sweet, tender and stuffed with nutritious ingredients. They are absolutely scrumptious!

French Stuffed Baked Apples

I love Apple desserts and this one happens to be at the top of my list!

Something wonderful happens to apples when they are left to soften in the oven for a while. It’s almost as if they become sweeter and juicier, making them both satisfying and refreshing.

This French Stuffed Baked Apples recipe is a classic French country style dessert I can’t get enough of. I grew up in a small town in the province of Quebec where homemade jams, fruit pies and baked apples made their appearance, in abundance, during the cooler seasons.

So I thought about sharing this stuffed baked apple recipe in December because it looks and tastes festive.

It’s also super healthy, gluten-free and vegetarian!

Stuffed Apples That Are Also Super Nutritious!

These apples are stuffed with prunes, nuts, organic honey, allspice and cinnamon. The flavor combination is sweet and nutty and pairs perfectly with the tartness of the apples. I recommend using Honeycrisp (they are by far my favorite apples) or Pink Lady apples because they are both sweet and tart and very juicy.

Because the dish is mainly about apples, you want to make sure you have the best apples to cook with.

As for the texture, you want them to be tender when they come out of the oven. Depending on the size of the apples, you may need to bake them for longer than the suggested time (I picked medium ones and they were tender after 35 minutes in the oven), so don’t be afraid to tweak this recipe a little.

Baked Apples That Taste Best Fresh Out Of The Oven

If you are planning to serve these stuffed baked apples as part of a Christmas dinner or a family holiday dinner, I suggest serving them fresh out of the oven.

Working on a tight schedule in the kitchen?

Make the stuffing in advance and keep it refrigerated until it’s time to use it. This will save you a good 10-15 minutes.

What if my guests don’t like prunes?

Let me confess something – I don’t particularly like prunes and neither does Ben.

But we both love this dessert!

So I would say not to worry about it too much – if you know that someone isn’t too fond of prunes, then simply don’t mention it. This is a crowd pleaser so everyone should love this dessert, I promise!

Other yummy and festive desserts:

  • Japanese fluffy cheesecake
  • Golden chocolate tofu brownies
  • Super nutty chocolate peppermint bark
  • Japanese Christmas cupcakes
  • Dutch apple pie
