How to Make Pie Crust Using Shortening


For 1 9-inch Pie Crust

Ingredients:
  • Flour – 1 cup
  • Salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Shortening – 1/3 cup
  • Cold water – 3 to 4 tablespoons


Method:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mix the flour and salt.

Then cut the shortening into the flour until the mixture resembles crumbs.

Add 1 tablespoon of water at a time into the Dough crumbs and mix till it forms a ball.

Refrigerate for 1 hour.

Take out of fridge and roll dough into a circle 1/8 inch thick. Place the dough into the pie dish and trim around the edges.

To bake the Shell before adding the filling first prick bottom and side of empty Pie Shell.

Cover the pie shell with a foil and fill with dry beans. Bake 5 -7 minutes. Remove the foil and beans.

The empty baked shell is now ready.
