LEGO City Police and LEGO City Great Vehicles

We've received a parcel filled with amazing LEGO City construction sets, and we all had great fun building them! Even Clay had no problem building 98% of a set by himself! The new LEGO City construction sets are from the Police and Great Vehicles range, and we were sent the following to review:

LEGO City Police - High Speed Chase (#60138, RRP £24.99, aimed for 5 years and above)
LEGO City Police - Bulldozer Break-in (#60140, RRP £64.99, aimed for 5 years and above)
LEGO City - Pizza Van (#60150, RRP £14.99, aimed for 5 years and above)
LEGO City - Dragster Transporter (#60151, RRP £24.99, aimed for 5 years and above)

Abby and Clay did a video for the sets as well:

LEGO City Police - High Speed Chase:

The LEGO City Police - High Speed Chase comes with 294 pieces split into 4 bags, 3 instruction booklets, a sticker sheet, 4 minifigures, which includes an exclusive Spring 2017 minifigure Chase McCain, as well as a police helicopter, police pursuit car and a sports car.

This set was built mostly by Clay (by the time I noticed, he already completed everything except the helicopter!), and he only needed a little bit of help with the helicopter (see below).

We love to collect the LEGO City Police cars, as the new designs never ceased to impress us. It's not just about updating the looks of the cars, but also improving the structure without relying on unique pieces (large plates or LEGO Technic pieces, for example).

Both cars looks smart, but we still love the police pursuit car more!

The LEGO City Police helicopter in this set does feature unique LEGO pieces for the streamlined design, making it look really smart. What I really liked though, is the new way of putting the rotor blades together. This is usually the part that breaks first, now it stays firmly together!

Another update we saw is the way to thread the lowering winch. We used to have to tie a knot after threading the thread through the small hole, which was a real pain. Now you just need to thread it through the hole, and the bar that holds them together will keep the thread in place. Clay did once pulled too hard and the thread came out, but it was very easy to reassemble, and I certainly didn't have to re-tie a knot.

You still have to tie a knot on the hook, but that's much easier than tying a knot on the winch, and the cotton threat have been keeping the knot together.

Apart from the threading and misalignment on the rotor blades, Clay (he's almost 6) built the whole set by himself, and he was very pleased with the result!

LEGO City Police - Bulldozer Break-in:

The LEGO City Police - Bulldozer Break-in comes with 561 pieces split into 7 bags, 2 instruction booklets, a sticker sheet, 5 minifigures, a police dog, as well as a bank, police helicopter, police truck and a bulldozer.

This set was built by Abby (9) alone.

Look at the tail rotor head! We love the new design! This helicopter also features a camera and a big spot light, just like the ones you see in a police chase!

The police truck features a different wheel splash guard (I'm not sure if that's the correct name for it?) than the ones we normally see (the rounded one). I think this one definitely suits the truck better!

The bulldozer looks great as well with the tank tread. I remember one of the similar design allows the blade to go up, but this one tilts forward/ backwards. The main feature however, is the hook, as that's how the thieves break the vault out of the bank!

The bank has a few fun features with realistic looking designs. You can break the ATM out of the bank, as well as the vault, which is our favourite item in the set:

The vault is just like a miniature vault. It looks really cute, and it's filled with LEGO money! It is attached to the bank by a couple of hooks. To make the tightness of the hooks just right so it's loose enough for the vault to be pulled out from outside using the bulldozer, but not so loose that it'll fall out from the bank, the LEGO designers has cleverly chosen the LEGO pieces that will do just the trick (see the above pictures).

The new LEGO City Police range has been Abby and hubby's all time favourite, and we love the new designs. They look great and like the target age suggested, young kids will have no problem building the sets mostly by themselves, so they can definitely get more enjoyment out of them.

Our aim will be getting the new LEGO City Police Station (#60141, RRP £84.99, aimed for 6 years+) as well which looks awesome:

LEGO City Great Vehicles - Pizza Van:

We all love the LEGO City Pizza Van! It's so colourful and fun, and the features inside the van is especially attractive!

The set comes with 249 pieces split into 2 bags, 1 sticker sheet and 2 instruction booklet, 2 minifigures, a scooter, parasol and stand, and the pizza van.

Initially I thought that the girl on the scooter was delivering the pizza, but she's actually a customer, which makes more sense (why would you need a delivery person for a pizza van?). The scooter is a very simple design but I love it that there is a box of pizza on the back of the van!

The green parasol looks like a new design, I think the quality is better. I love the pizza triangles too! Look at all the yummy details!

The Pizza Van is built entirely from basic LEGO pieces (no big vehicle pieces), and the details are amazing. If you look under the van, you can see green pieces peaking out. It's such a small detail, you could probably use any colour bricks in there, but they picked the ones that will fit the design.

I love the kitchen! The food looks yummy, and did you spot the lid of the canned drink? The oven unit looks great too!

I also love how the opening sides of the van flushed with the whole van when it's closed. It doesn't really look like there is an opening if they didn't put the details around it.

Hubby was disappointed that he didn't get to build the van, we all thought that he'll prefer the following set more (which is also great!). But then, who can resist such a colourful and fun Pizza Van? It's definitely our favourite from the new LEGO City Great Vehicles range!

LEGO City Great Vehicles - Dragster Transporter:

The LEGO City Great Vehicles - Dragster Transporter comes with 333 pieces split into 4 bags, 3 instruction booklets, 1 sticker sheet, 2 minifigures, a transporter truck, light signal and a Dragster.

The first thing that caught our attention was the flaming engine on the Dragster and the light signal (shinyyyy!). Clay has been eyeing at the LEGO diamonds and ores, so as soon as he sees them, whatever set they are featured in, they'll be collected in his treasure pile! So I had to make sure that pictures are all taken before he gets to lay his hands on them!

The engine with flame element is a very interesting design.  It makes the Dragster look powerful and fast, and a tad dangerous too! We can even imagine the angry vrooming sound!

The transporter's trailer features a lowering ramp, so it secures the Dragster during transport, and can let it drive off when the ramp is down.

The transporter has all the details of a real truck, even the steps next to the door! The trailer can be detached as well.

What we also noticed from this set is another one of the new ways LEGO keep construction set parts attached. If you look closely at the Dragster's wheel, they have fitted a light grey screw like part into the middle of the wheel that locks the wheel into the light grey "x" bar. This way the wheel will hold even better than before.

Overall the new LEGO City Great Vehicles are brilliant for LEGO vehicle fans to collect. We absolutely love the Pizza Van, and hope that LEGO will introduce more of the kind!

LEGO Games:

We spotted a few LEGO games advertised on the LEGO City sets. The first one is perfect for LEGO City fans - the free My City 2 app downloadable from Google play and AppStore.

There is also the redesigned LEGO City Undercover game that'll be released this year (around Spring), featuring the new Chase McCain from the LEGO City Police - High Speed Chase set. The game will be available on XBox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

The LEGO Worlds will be out this month for just RRP £24.99, where LEGO fans can get creative in this PC/ XBox One/ PS4 game! We are definitely going to explore this!

LEGO Batman Movie:

We watched the LEGO Batman Movie yesterday and it was FABULOUS! We think that it's even better than The LEGO Movie, although that was awesome too. If you haven't seen it yet, we highly recommend it. A lot of The LEGO Batman Movie goodies we've reviewed made more sense to us now (The Joker's Mad House poster, for example), and we are playing with the LEGO construction sets differently (we love The Scuttler even more!). We are definitely going to get the Blu-Ray and watch it over and over again, while waiting for The LEGO Ninjago Movie's release (September 2017)!

So much excitement from LEGO this year, we can't wait to see what else is in store for us!
