Fishing the health consuming oily fish

This Saturday, May 28, is the National Nutrition Day, each year focused on a theme (for example, The Mediterranean Diet, healthy eating during pregnancy…) to raise awareness among the population. This year, the main objective of this day will be to highlight the importance of consuming fish and seafood, with the slogan "Fishing the health".

Precisely, this fundamental role of Fish was the theme with which a few years ago we inaugurated this little corner of Nutrition and Health: Benefits of fish for a balanced diet.

It is advisable to consume between two and four servings of fish per week; In addition, at least one of them must be blue fish (in this other post we talked about the differences between white and blue fish).

Consumption of canned oily fish

You all know, or have heard, that the consumption of Oily Fish is excellent for our health, among other properties, for its contribution in Omega-3 fatty acids.

In addition, different studies  carried out on the consumption of canned tuna, mackerel and sardines) have concluded that, compared to not eating any fish, the consumption of Canned Oily Fish is associated with a 23% decrease risk of colorectal cancer. (This is the third most diagnosed cancer. The second most lethal and it has been seen that there is a direct relationship between good dietary guidelines and its prevention).

Likewise, it has been seen that this association and therapeutic action favor women more, and that protection increases if consumption of fresh fish is added to it. In the case of the canned product, it must be in virgin olive oil.

The nutritional properties of canned and fresh oily fish are similar, although in the case of canning, you must pay attention to the amount of salt it contains (more than 1.2 g of salt is considered very high) and in case of uric acid problems, the consumption of canned products should be moderated.

Finally, remember that, as we always say, these dietary tips must be part of good life habits: practice regular physical activity, do not smoke, sleep well, avoid “bad stress”, take care of the diet, etc.
Some excellent products that help maintain our health!
