Whole 30 2: Day 3

I was lucky enough to spend 2 weeks with my family, 1 week was spent in California, and then I returned to Indiana for a week. However, today was the day I returned to California. This meant a cross-country flight which would require Whole 30-friendly snacks to take along with me.

I ended up getting two of the Larabars that are allowed on the Whole 30 plus some compliant almonds and dried Apple Chips. I also grabbed some pistachios and a tangerine at the last minute (not pictured).

For breakfast, I had the last half of the leftover turkey burger that I didn’t finish the morning of Day 2, with 2 scrambled eggs mixed in. My mom made some pretty kiwi fans to go alongside.

Lunch was pretty small, and consisted of a cruciferous vegetable salad topped with a leftover chicken thigh from Dinner the night before and drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Afterwards, we went to the airport.

When I got to the airport, it was mid-afternoon  so I had a decaf coffee and one of the Larabars. During my flight, it would have been around dinner time, so I got a little hungry and ate some apple chips. It’s really easy for me to limit these because the amount of natural sweetness is really satisfying.

By the time I got to my layover I was hungry for dinner and snacks were not going to help me. I figured all along I could get hard boiled eggs at least somewhere, and as I walked from gate to gate my search wasn’t working out. I was starting to feel uncomfortably far from my departure gate, so I made the best decision I could with what was available and went to Salt Lick Barbecue and got some smoked Turkey Breast, without the bun and without sauce. I couldn’t find online if there was a rub with sugar on it, and I figured there would be skin I could pick off if that were the case. The turkey breast was skinless, and it didn’t seem like there was seasoning on the outside other than salt and it didn’t taste sweet, so I think it was a good choice in the end. I rounded it out with my pistachios and tangerine.

During my last flight, I had a handful of almonds.

I don’t normally snack this much, but I think the circumstances were out of the ordinary since I was crossing a few time zones and I didn’t eat proper meals that would have filled me up for a long time.

Hopefully back to some semblance of normality tomorrow.
