Daily Thoughts 08/06/2016

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this afternoon.

When I got into work, I checked the displays and the gift books.

This morning, I worked on setting up a program for a local author talk by Ron Fleming who has four books about Mount Vernon.  Ron Fleming coached basketball in Mount Vernon, New York.  There are a number of players who have made to the NBA from Mount Vernon.  He had written four books.  There were thirty eight people today at the reading.  The program was from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.  The crowd appreciated the talk. Some colleagues did an excellent job in helping out with the program.  Ronald Fleming's message is very positive.

On the way home, I read some more of  The Planet Remade.  This is unique coverage of some topics at the fringes of science.  The author describes how the concept of nuclear winter was tied in the with the idea that an asteroid caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.  He goes even further out with the idea that an asteroid might hit the earth again and create another massive die off of plants and animals.  He then describes how people are watching for such an asteroid.  Somehow, Oliver Morton combines these ideas all together and relates them to climate change. It is boggling to read.
