There is no denying
all is perturbed
on the back of Atlas
who was asked by Zeus
to carry a sack of grief.

Fed from the bottom up
through our tap-root
we grew into the days
and years of the time.

It is for my mother
that I say these things,
since if Atlas were no lad
in his twenties,
things wouldn't be half
as bad as they are today.
