THE MAKEOVER

It was a long time ago when I was just a little, quiet and observant child. One fine day, during my first grade summer vacation, I had nothing to engage myself in. It was a bright sunny day, with few fluffy clouds floating around, and the sun was shining brightly. The Sunday afternoon was really merry, everyone engrossed in their own busy life…except me, for I was incomparably bored. I had nothing to do but to stare out of the small window of my bedroom. The view was enchanting. The excellent weather was perfect for a game of Cricket…or flying my beautifully decorated kite…or for a jolly walk with my pet pup. But nothing was possible as I was struck with high fever and a horrid cold.

I was mixed with feelings. I had nothing to do. I had got tired of sleeping hours together. It was then that an excellent Idea, an idea that changed my life, popped up. I decided that I would give the feelings and ideas that were floating around in my mind, a nice clean home on a small piece of paper. I sat down with nothing much than a pen and a few sheets of papers along with a mini dictionary. The very feeling I experienced while presenting my humongous imagination on paper cannot be expressed in words. And that was how Srivishnu, the writer was born.

I was introduced to the art of reading at the age of five and by seven; I started presenting my dreams in the form of short Stories. I brainstormed for ideas every free second I got and dreamed every night, getting a lot of ideas for various new stories to weave. My dreams were pictured and stored in my mind, then presented on rough paper. The draft would then be edited and would become a Story.

It was my story so anything could happen. From aliens invading planets to a giant fairy castle set up on pink clouds. This was really entertaining and exciting, a very good pastime for me. It was also a marvelous way to express the various feelings felt by a young child with a vast and wandering mind, like me.

I soon found out that I wanted to become someone famous in the field of Writing – say Enid Blyton; R.K.Narayan; Ruskin Bond; or my modern-day favorite, Rick Riordan. This motive ignited my desire to write more. So I read as many books as possible, specifically of these authors because I like their way of capturing the reader’s attention and their way of getting the story going.

Do I love writing? That is a silly question to ask me, in my opinion. I love writing to the core! The universe is the limit to my dreams and ideas. My ambition to entertain others grew like a bamboo. Nobody could (or can) stop me from writing. Reading books of various genres sparked my imagination. So I was filled with lots and lots of ideas that my brain had no place to store them. And it wouldn’t be enough if the seeds were left in the ground without being taken care of. So my parents encouraged me to weave the threads of ideas into a large story.

My first exposure to public audience was when I was eight years old. It was about a year after I started writing tales. I had written a small story. It was not more than three pages long and was hand-written. But I was happy with my work and I felt it was worth all my effort. I was encouraged to share the story with my classmates and teachers. I wasn’t really excited about the idea, but still decided to go with it. My class-teacher was so impressed with me. She rushed to my English instructor and gave the sheets of paper to her. And during the English class that day, I was in for a surprise! My teacher asked me to come up in front of the class and read my story! I was happy, and at the same time, nervous. I got up and to the front of the class. I picked up my sheets of paper, gathered all my courage and read aloud the whole story.

At the end, I was beaming with pleasure as the whole class clapped and shouted and whistled, for they had never heard such a story, and that to from a boy of their own class! I am not boasting but what I say is true. The eagerness shown by my classmates to listen to my short piece of writing gave me the confidence to continue in the field of writing.

Even to this day I am really happy with that move (showing my work to my teacher) as I got my first feedback and advices to improve. My English instructor was really impressed with my passion to write and asked me to share more stories with my classmates as they enjoy a lot of stories, especially fiction.  That was my first experience as a writer.
The experience was definitely heart-warming and was my source for encouragement.

A year later, i was pushed to the next step of exposure to public audience. I noticed in myself the rapidly growing interest to write. So I created a blog  to publish my posts. Various people could now read my stories and send me their opinions on my stories. This gave me an opportunity to improve my writing with comments and advices of experienced writers and readers. It also gave me the opportunity to improve writing by accepting the criticisms of distinctive people. I was really excited and the blog gave me a boost of encouragement.

My blog was a great success and I received a few comments. It was the prime medium for encouragement and to share my stories with the world. I was really happy that my stories could now post my stories to the outside world. And I even got the urge to write a novel.

But I never got the attention I always wanted to. And I think the reason behind this was my style of writing.

In my opinion, one’s style of writing should grow up just as the writer. I need some guidance and assistance to help improve my style. Even this piece of work might not be as attractive and powerful as others’ work and this writing might even feel boring for some, but I’m trying my best.

And I will not stop. I will continue to write. I write for expression. I write to convey messages. I write to depict thrilling real life experiences and I also write for fun. And the sole motive of my writing is to entertain the reader and myself, the writer.
