Best Fantasy Book for October 2015

We will never understand how Brandon Sanderson publishes so many good books in such a short period of time, but once again he’s managed to maintain the same unbelievably high standard for quality with a new chapter in the Mistborn saga we think is even better than its predecessor, The Alloy of Law (Mistborn #4).

Title: Shadows of Self (Mistborn #5)

Author: Brandon Sanderson

Introspective Question: do I like Brandon so much because when I met him at a book signing he was a really great guy?  Well, it certainly doesn’t hurt, but there is no question the world of Scadrial perfectly highlights one of Mr. Sanderson’s greatest assets as a Fantasy author: no-one I’ve seen in the industry creates magic systems that are more complex (and yet still fully understandable) than Brandon Sanderson.  Allomantic powers which can be COMBINED with Feruchemic abilities, and when they combine a new effect is often seen?  That gives Brandon nearly unlimited combinations and effects to play with, and he is the master of devising clever ways to employ his characters’ magic.  We’ve barely even seen some of the known abilities the Appendix says will be the most interesting.  I literally can’t wait to see what new twists he creates next.

HQ’s Mistborn Series Video Preview:

From the Publisher:

Shadows of Self shows Mistborn’s society evolving as technology and magic mix, the economy grows, democracy contends with corruption, and religion becomes a growing cultural force, with four faiths competing for converts.

This bustling, optimistic, but still shaky society now faces its first instance of terrorism, crimes intended to stir up labor strife and religious conflict. Wax and Wayne, assisted by the lovely, brilliant Marasi, must unravel the conspiracy before civil strife stops Scadrial’s progress in its tracks.

Shadows of Self will give fans of The Alloy of Law everything they’ve been hoping for and, this being a Brandon Sanderson book, more, much more.
