A Little Trip to Newcastle

Tags: love travel trip

I Love travel, wherever it takes me. Whether it's near or far, I love getting out of town and exploring, taking in new sights, or revisiting a favourite spot.

A couple of months ago it was the latter, when Matthew and I headed up to beautiful Newcastle for a weekend. It's a city we both know well and adore, and with it being only a few hours away by train and a base for many of our family and friends we like to get up there fairly frequently!

On the day we visited the mighty Tyne was as still and calm as a millpond, and Matthew was very patient as I took roughly eleventy-thousand shots of the bridges and the sights of Gateshead reflected in the water.

We strolled along the Quayside to the Malmaison, where we were staying, enjoying the fresh air immensely after being sat on a train.

Even with the grey skies the city was looking beautiful and giving us as warm a welcome as ever!

After weeks of London busy-ness it was so refreshing to be in a smaller, calmer city.

We were up to attend a football match and it made me giggle to see the Magpie Pride in full display as we checked in. I love the bond between the city and the team (and am so excited we're back up in the Premier League next season!).

After checking in we went for a walk through the city, after fortifying ourselves at All Bar One, where we spotted the excellent book below.

We took a scenic tour of the back roads and footpaths of the city...

...snapping pictures of the architecture...

...before meeting up with friends and heading up to St James' Park.

We usually sit in the normal seats (M was a season ticket holder for years, until travelling up for matches become a huge hassle/expense), but as we were having a bit of a family and friends day out we were doing a hospitality package.

It was really odd being in the empty stadium before it filled up (we had lunch there, so arrived well before the match), but before long the Toon Army were in full attendance and in fine voice!

We had a lovely time watching the match, having a few drinks and catching up.

A few bets were placed and a few people even won!

After that it was time to say our farewells and stroll back through the city and along the Quayside, for dinner and an early night after a long day.

Always a treat to spend time in the glorious north.

Burano in Italy was stunning, and an instagrammer's dream!

A Trip to Brighton with Katy last year was a lovely little seaside break.

And flying Upper Class with Virgin Atlantic to the States was a real travel treat
