I Love Your Blog: Vicky Dalton-Banks

While I love being a lifestyle blogger, I like to read blogs of a million different types. From books to food to fashion to travel there are so many awesome people writing great things, taking amazing pictures and creating compelling, interesting content. What a delight it is to be a small cog within this realm!

One of my favourite foodie bloggers, as well as a great traveller and truly a 'must click' for restaurant recommendations here in town is the lovely Vicky Dalton-Banks. I've been reading her blog for about two years now and I adore it, and I've been lucky to become friends with the lady herself through a series of food events and the wonder that is Pizza Club. I was delighted when Vicky agreed to be part of I Love Your Blog, and hope you enjoy her interview below.

Pretty lady! All pictures from Vicky's awesome blog :)

How long have you been blogging?

I've been blogging for 2 and a half years and probably love doing it more than ever!

What do you blog about?  Do you have a specific goal with your blog, or is it more a record of your life/a hobby?

I mainly blog about food with some travel thrown in. I suppose it's an extension of me and these are two of my favourite things. I am always thinking about food - I began my blog with the goal to document all my cooking but I've found my focus to be more about London food! My blog records my life and I just try to be as honest as possible in my writing. We all lead busy lives so I want to share the things that are worth your precious time!

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

It has to be all the people I've met and the friends I've made. Which is probably what we all say! But blogging has really given me a confidence that I didn't have before and it's introduced me to so many amazing people.

What is your least favourite thing about blogging?

The hate that sometimes goes around...

Do you have any favourite posts on your blog – pieces you’re really proud of, which document something special, or which seemed to strike a chord with your readers?

I think my favourite and one of my most popular posts is when I wrote about my most memorable food experiences. I really enjoyed writing this post - I felt like I was letting my readers into my world and showing them my fondest memories. The comments were just lovely and it's made me want to write more posts like it.

Whose blogs do you love?  I’m always looking for recommendations :)

Connie Consumes - I love the way Connie writes, every post has a story behind it, which I love.

Where's Mollie - She will make you want to jump on a plane right this second!

The Anna Edit - I just love her style and always lust after her handbags!

You are such an inspirational foodie - what would your perfect three course meal be?

Ah, thank you! This is a very hard question...

I think I would start with fish. Scallops cooked simply are one of my favourite dishes, but smoked salmon would also be a very good way to start.

My main course would have to involve a good portion of meat! My first thought would be a perfectly cooked steak with frites, watercress on the side and a nice dollop of bearnaise sauce (to dunk the chips, not for the steak). But actually beef ragu is a very strong contender too.

If I am not stuffed, I love a chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. But if my eyes have been too big for my belly then a scoop of fruit sorbet is always a winner.

See, can you tell all I think about is food - I don't think I could choose just one meal, and could spend all day discussing my favourite menu combinations!

Which is your favourite kind of cuisine, and are there any spots in London that you feel do it really, really well?

Italian food, hands down.

Firstly there's pizza (#pizzaclub, whoop whoop) and then there's pasta. Then we have anitpasti, burrata and gelato. I don't think I could ever get bored of Italian food, there is such variation in the dishes found across the country and I love the ethos behind the ingredients used and the way food is enjoyed. I just love it all!

It's not easy to find a good Italian restaurant in London, in my opinion. My I have two favourites: Theo's Simple Italian (also the nicest chef ever) and Mele e Pere. I still need to try the River Cafe and Bocca di Lupo.

Is there any food which you cannot stand?

I can't think of anything! Though the thought of having to eat any sort of bug as a delicacy fills me with dread.

What tips do you have for bloggers growing and nurturing their blogs?

Write about what you love. You're  likely spending most of your free time creating content and if it doesn't fill you with joy you'll resent doing it.

And get talking to people! For so long I was too shy to interact with other bloggers or followers over Twitter and Instagram because I was worried I'd say something silly or the wrong thing. But people read blogs over other media because it come's from a real person. Just be yourself and you'll find your way!

Thank you so much for joining me over here, Vicky - pizza soon?
