It’s September of 1979, and eighteen-year-old Laurie Caswell is blissfully living her best life. Everything revolves around the Northbrook Mall, where she enjoys her bookstore job, shopping, and going to the movies with her boyfriend Dennis Nolan.
But one evening, after sneaking some booze with Dennis while her mom is out of town, Laurie has a vivid nightmare. Catapulted forty-two years into the future, she encounters a horrific scene: the once-bustling mall is almost dead. The people she encounters are overweight, wear odd face coverings, and are obsessed with strange rectangular objects with light-up screens. Worst of all are the warnings about Convict-21, which seems to have turned everyone into prisoners lining up for a poisonous vaccine.
The year 2021 is vastly different than her current reality. But is Laurie’s dream a nightmare . . . or a prophecy?
