You Earn Your Body

After struggling and scrolling through various motivational quotes and watching 6 TEDx videos on subjects like loving yourself the way you, You are your hero etc. I must say I am pretty pumped up with the change I am going to make in my life and hopefully that might help you as well.

After self diagnosing  with the Negative Body Image I have realized the monster and the bully in me has to die immediately.The pain I have caused myself bythe harsh words spoken by me not only lowered my self esteem but questioned my confidence at various levels.So it was utmost important How the hell would I do that??

To begin with I know it ain’t as simple as it seems cause your self-perception as I mentioned in my last post (No worries if you haven’t here’s my post) doesn’t just affect your weight, it affects your mental health too. Guys aren’t any exception to Negative Body image too. It affects all gender, age and probably keeps recurring if you don’t fight with this.

A 2015 study found that people who had higher self-esteem had less depression, better relationships, and more job satisfaction. Oh Yeah and they lived longer too. So it is all the more reason for me to write down ways you can break the cycle of negative body image and start the healing process.

It’s crazy these days the amount of pressure we face and we break down easily blaming our bodies for it. I think I would like to share my Personal story here as a teenager I disliked the mirror big time. I was always very rude to myself because I believed that everybody else in this world is far more prettier than me. I had unrealistic comparison with actresses or whatever. I remember so many photographs and situations where all I did was cry and howl over what (I am not that great, I might be ugly). Hours and hours of my time was spent on Facebook and Instagram scrolling through posts and pictures of others and placing myself downward., so down that I stopped posting anything on the social networking site for almost a year. Crazy!! But it manipulates you so bad that you start calling yourself names.

I am kind of Killing my Pessimism here and presenting:

 5 things that’ll turn the tables around for you and kick Negative Body Imagine in the balls:

You Need To talk To Yourself

Accept your body and accept the flaws. All you need is a  quiet room and  a piece of paper. Yes go old school on this one, no matter how much digitally evolved humans are, things like self talking and accepting flaws needs you to be done all by yourself. Once you know what’s a flaw in you, the lesser power you give someone to play on your flaws. You have to let go of all your guards and things will happen smoothly in the quiet room where no more denial and running away from reality is going to take place. Not to mention this step is very important for not just setting a positive body image but also for better mental health.

*** Cheat: I have tried this in front of a mirror and it was one of the most enlightening conversion I ever had with anyone.

Ask yourself WHY are you doing this

Ask yourself Why you need to loose weight or gain weight or change anything in you. In that piece of paper you will need to write down #whyIneedtodosomething. It can be as silly as for your date or that new dress you need to try and showcase the new you. Write down at least 5 points. Trust me once you start writing the list goes on and on. Dream, yes you heard that right. You need to dream real hard. Create a virtual or physical folder where you can put in reasons why you need to. Another interesting way of doing this is imagining yourself in that skinny jeans or crop top (whatever your motivation is) and you will see that is the thing that pushes you. Base this goal on physical activity mile markers in order to prioritize how you feel and what your body can do, rather than just what it looks like. Run or swim or bike or walk faster or for longer than ever before.

Pull Out Your Gratitude list

Bring out your gratitude list: Write down things you have in your life which you are really thankful for. Can be as simple as “I have a job which pays me well, I have my parents who call me up everyday at 7, I have access to all the physiological needs except one but that’s not too bad”. So gather your armors and this will set the foundation strong for your mission to meet the fitter you.

Plan Of Action

List down your plan of action and gather whatever you need. Redefine your ideals of beauty and health for yourself in more empowering ways. One powerful way to decrease self-consciousness and love your body is through your own ideas. There are lots of apps that can help you loose weight but first Plan of Action. That is are you going to join that yoga class or gym or MMA. You will have to see science behind everything so that you can avoid the fad. Don’t do anything which is short-term cause then the results are not gonna stay longer.

Baby-steps (Change the bad habits)

After self-talking, setting your goals, thanking whatever you have and slating your plan of action all you need to do is execute it. You will be like Wow!! thank you, we already know this. But bare with  me for sometime. I known I have thrown a lot at you guy but let’s not try to figure out everything at once. You just need to acknowledge your bad habits and change what you can in the next coming week. I had couple of them so I did that by writing it down in a nice notebook like “Drink more water you stupid, Walk 1000 steps today”. Take inventory of your beauty habits and routine, including the time, energy and money you spend on your appearance. Reflect on whether any of that time, effort, or money you need for you action plan.

So Shut down those voices in your head that tell you your body is not “beautiful” or that you need to “look”. You can overpower those negative thoughts with positive ones. The next time you start to tear yourself down, build yourself back up with a few quick affirmations that work for you.
