Lessons from last semester

Hello beautiful people and welcome to my blog. This is the point where you must smile, Why? Because you are alive and have the opportunity to breathe in fresh air, to see the wonders of nature, just give thanks to God. So, its summer time, I have returned from “Schoolland” after spending 4 months! Phew! 4 months, its not a joke but it’s time for the holidays. Obviously, you don’t spend 4 months in a place and not pick up a thing or two, and that’s what this post is for. This post is to fill you in on a couple of things I learnt this semester in “Schoolland”.

This semester was a smoothie, like for real, it was a blend of good, bad, neutral and even more. In the same semester where I performed poetry for the first time and started my business (anyone else hear the sound of money?), I also had my worst test scores and my worst timetable, like ever! but the overall good was the fact that I met God this semester. The semester was just … something and there were a lot of things I learnt that I want to share. I’m very sure that you will pick a thing or two to use in the future from this post. So, let’s get to the lessons, shall we?

Know yourself

I feel this IS something we have seen multiple of times, but this cannot be overemphasized. I got a firsthand lesson on this, during the semester, I really needed to know myself. This semester was a busy one, the timetable was remarkably terrible, I barely had time to look in the mirror (not really, but I think you get where I’m heading this) and I also had business, blogging, poetry and other things to do. I needed to really know myself, to know my strengths and weaknesses, to know when I worked best, to know how to reward myself, to know when I was putting my all and when there was still more left in the tank. I needed to be my best friend, so I wouldn’t end up being burnt out and frustrated.

It helped me a lot and I’m sure it’ll help you too no matter what stage you may be in. So, get a book and fill it up with things about you, study yourself. It will help you know what you’re good at, things you need to work on, and it gives you a sense of self love. You should try it!

Be your best friend

Work Smart not Hard

This semester I got introduced to the concept of Productivity. I learnt that it’s not really how many hours you put into work, its how much yourself that you put into work that counts. I got so much videos on productivity from YouTube, you’d think I was trying to write a book on it. Another tip I want to give is to use YouTube well, there’s more to that app than just movie trailers and music videos, the videos really helped me a lot this semester.

So, what did productivity teach me? It taught me to put my best hours into work to get best results, learning to work smart not hard. Working hard involves putting as much effort and time into work however Working smart is knowing yourself, knowing the conditions to which you work best and applying those conditions to particular task and trust me it works.

I figured out that my timetable was a mess, so I usually slept from 8-12 (around that range) and worked from 12-4, trust me when I say it worked wonders. It all started with me knowing myself and adjusting my day to work best. Working smart not hard.

Be Productive

Little things accumulate to form the Big things

I really couldn’t find a smoother way to present this, somethings you need to say as they are, “Little things accumulate to form the Big things.” What do I mean? Some of us have some habits that seem so big and hard to break, well I want to let you know that the reason why it seems so big to break is cause of the smaller habits you harmlessly engage in. Let me give my personal example.

Prior to last semester, I was always this spontaneous person, I liked to do things in the spur of the moment, it made them feel more genuine. As I went forward in life and responsibilities piled up for me, I realized I had to more intentional about my schedule, in other words I needed to start planning. I got sticky notes and made to-do lists but I realized they weren’t so effective, I wasn’t achieving what I wanted to. There was still a hint of spontaneity, sometimes I ended up doing things that weren’t on my to-do list.

So, I decided to take another approach, be more intentional about the little things. There were some small bad habits I had, like I never used to unpack my box, most times I just kept my box in my wardrobe and brought out things I needed and when I was done, return them back (don’t judge me, we all have our habits). Another bad habit was always keeping my money and card everywhere in the world, aside from my wallet! It was frustrating cause I was always looking for my money or my card. I realized to be more planned in the bigger areas, I needed to start from these small areas.

So, I unpacked my box and arranged it, it was beautiful, I was proud of myself. Then the wallet thing, well its still a working progress but I’m better than I was. I noticed something after taking these steps, I started achieving more, started becoming more planned about things in my life. I became able to stick to a to-do list because of being able to stick with an arranged wardrobe and keeping money in my wallet. What am I trying to say? To change the big things, keep an eye out for the little things. Remember

An ocean starts with a drop of water

So that’s a wrap. Just like most of these posts, it will become a series, they are more lessons left and I don’t want to congest this post. So, stick with this blog for more lessons. If this post was helpful, please let me know in the comment section. And if you have anything to add or personal experience of these lessons working for you, please use the comment box. Thanks again for stopping by.

Have a wonderful day
