True love

Good day and welcome to my blog. I’m really hoping you’re having a great day but if you aren’t having the best of days, no fear, poetry’s here. In a bit, I’ll be introducing a new Poem I just completed and its titled “True Love”. I’ve not really decided if there would be a complimentary post for this one, where I would talk on this topic but I will advice to stay ………. tuned (I guess lol). So this is a poem about Love and how its meaning has to come to change over time (oh wait, this is meant to be part of the complimentary post). Well, it’s a poem about Love and you will definitely love it, besides who doesn’t love a good poem about Love. Enough talk, let’s get to the poem:

True Love

Long gone is True love.

It seems like the world has forgotten what it ever was.

And like a troubled dove,

It departed from all of us.

Leaving us with counterfeits,

That paled in comparison.

Leaving us with “commercial love”

Love that its true content has been sold

And all that’s left is its husk.

Love where the ritual of intimacy

Became a mere casualty,

An object that could be sold for money.

Leaving us with “exhibition love”

Love only concerned with flaunting to the world

On the inside, with so much cracks and faults

But on the outside, seems to belong to a museum.

Leaving us with “social network love”

Love lacking what’s true

Only concerned with how many Instagram views.

Leaving us with “publicity love”

Where love became a publicity stunt,

As the world naively watched in admiration.

Love became more of an object of envy,

Than a reason to be happy.

Became more of a condition to fit in,

Rather than treasure worth seeking.

Became an apartment for rent,

With the world as the landlord

Because we were afraid to build something true from the foundation.

Love became a weapon to hold man captive,

Stopped being conducive and became abusive

As to oppress became its main motive.

So I’ll do all of man a favour

And ask that million dollar question

“Where on earth, has true love gone?”.

So that’s the poem, I hope you loved it, hope you could relate to it and most of all I hope it inspired you. And Yes, there would be a complimentary post for this post while typing this, I realized there’s still more to say on this.
