The best things in life come free

Good day, I’m hoping you’re having a great day. The Poem I’m about to introduce to you is titled “Best things in life come free”. The purpose of this poem is to change your perspective to life, to make you discover the value to the little things we take for granted that come free to us all. Most of the time, we get carried away by monetary value of things and we tend to consider the things we have for free as useless or irrelevant, the aim of this piece is to change that. To make you see the gold that you’ve always had for free.

The inspiration to some of my poems makes me laugh sometimes and this is one of them. This poem came about as a result of a tweet I came across during the holidays. The tweet claimed that the most Valuable Things in life are those things that come for free, eventually this became the theme to a new poem but unaware of it at that time I replied saying “I thought it was the most valuable things in life are those that don’t come for free” . We would eventually continue by stating our sides to the coin as she mentioned family, friends, hugs, as the most precious things to life and I replied mentioning drugs, shelter, clothing, things I felt we would not be alive without. It took time and a change in perspective before I saw the truth to her side but eventually I did (it was in a boring class and I didn’t have much to do then lol). I came to realize that, Yes, she was right and I was also. This poem isn’t to discredit the things we work for or the things with monetary value but its to make you see the value in the underrated little things we all have at our dispensation. To make us realize how just a smile or a compliment or a listening ear could change a person’s day or month or year or who knows maybe a lifetime. Some of us rarely give any of these to the extent that if our life was a library and these were books, they’d be covered in dust and cobwebs. We need to stop being constantly preoccupied with money and realize that maybe the reason a smile, a hug, a compliment, or being a friend to someone in need is so free is because its priceless, and no form of currency can afford their value. We all have it at our dispensation so let’s not waste them. I hope you love the poem.

Best things in life come free

Laughter, the best medicine

Love, the warmest home

So how on earth could a mortal claim,

Our maker left us all alone

Joy, the best companion

Happiness, a soothing friend

And all at our dispensation,

So why do we choose to neglect

A smile, the most cheerful gift

A hug, a troubled heart’s greatest need

So why do men choose to be stingy

And only want to receive

Family, the greatest bond

Friends, our strongest rock

So why do we choose to be influenced,

By the view of the world

It’s funny to think

Man claims money is his only need

Only if he could open his eyes to see

That the best things in life come free
