Good day and welcome to my blog. Today’s post is going to be about the topic The Unknown. Well  the title seems very vague (maybe because it’s about the unknown lol), so let me get right into it. But before I get to it, I would like to let you know that I wrote a poem about The Unknown in the previous post. The poem along with this post go hand in hand and would help in understanding this topic better. So, you might want to check that one first or maybe later. This post is going to be a little different; in this post I’ll be giving my inspiration to the poem as well as shedding light on The Unknown I’m referring to. So stick around.

The inspiration to the poem was a personal experience and we all love a good story, so let me tell it. It was earlier this semester and I was literally lost not physically but emotionally. I had a lot of things running through my mind. There’s a stage you get to in the university that you start to think of how to become financially independent. I had a couple of plans but they seemed like Everest to me because my dreams were big. That was not the main source to my confusion, it was Love. So, I had feelings for this girl and I never knew how she felt in return. It was eating me alive because a part of me wanted to follow my instincts and believe she did, but another part wanted me to use my head and just avoid heart-break. Contemplating on how she felt, if I should tell her or not, when to tell her how I felt, how to do so and so on, ran through my head all at once. All these unknowns especially how she felt made me feel a way I’ve never felt before. I didn’t know how I felt, it was unknown to me, all I knew was that it was very much and made me feel powerless. So I did what I usually do whenever I had a problem, to compose a poem (eventually she broke my heart but that’s a story for another day). As I wrote how I felt down, I decided to think on a broader spectrum, not just David Cromwell, what about mankind. And as I did, I came to discover a trend and that was that as human we are inclined to Fear things we don’t understand, The Unknown. I came to see that our greatest fears and weakness are not in the enemies known but in the strangers unknown.

Let me give an example, arguably man’s greatest fear is death, or what happens after we leave this earth. In response to that fear of not knowing what truly happens, what is true?, what to believe?, many run away from religious issues, many run away from the thought of death, many are afraid to dig deep so they build their lives on the frail understanding they have and so on. And that’s when I realized The Unknown is our greatest weakness. It was not only me, it was a human thing.

It’s in every area of life:

  • Aliens,
  • “Monsters”,
  • In our job. To take that massive leap, but we would rather stay in an unfavorable condition as long as they are familiar.
  • In our social life, to approach new people and abandon our bad relationships, we stay in those bad relationships because we are afraid of going out there, afraid of The Unknown.
  • Even in horror movies (lol) and so on.

But you get my point, it’s the human condition, we fear that which we do not understand. “The Unknown, the garden to which man’s true fear lies”.

If you’re a crowd person, you might not see a problem in being human, in being afraid of The Unknown. But I want you to know that no one does anything great by being in the crowd. And if being great isn’t your muse, then I’m very sure you want to be the best you, you can be. To live life to the fullest, to go the grave without regrets, then I advise that you start taking risks. Know that behind an Unknown is a two-sided coin, a good side or a bad side. All you have to do is hope for the best, prepare for the worst and take the risks to find out. Do what I didn’t do, and tell the person how you feel (or whatever might be your case) and let’s stop being consumed by The Unknown. Let’s go out there and take a risk. Life is often like a play in the theater and behind the curtain might be your best play or maybe your worst play, but you never know till you raise the curtain. Take a risk!!

I hope you enjoyed the post. If you have a comment, the comment box is all yours and if you liked it, spread the word to your friends and family because out there might be someone who needs it even more. If by some strange chance you aren’t following yet (lol), please do, the button is right there.

Have a lovely day.
