Sebastian Schwarz (Short Story Series #7)

Sebastian likes his life. He thinks he did well so far. He is one of the lucky ones, then got a job in the field he studied. Loved writing articles since high-school. So it was logical for him to follow the Journalism school. So he did. Amazing years those were. Now everything is more settled. But is that a good thing? Sebastian was never sure if this was really what he wanted.

He lived in a beautiful Aachen, close to the German-Belgian-Dutch border. He always loved the mixture of peoples and languages about the city. Sebastian found it inspiring. You could interview neighbours for decades and have so different point of views over who’s fault it was the garbage truck missed their houses this week. But there was a peace in the city that amazed him. Of course, it had not been like this before. He always loved the visit the new coffee shops, and the old and just watch people on the street. Many articles came out of random situations he saw from his coffee house window.

But back to Sebastian. He is getting close to his thirties and he is happy. He was always afraid that the age of thirty was going to find him lost and unfulfilled. Sebastian was fine. He loved where he lived. The fact that he had friends across both borders that he visited often. Though the languages across were always a funny story waiting to happen.

He had been working at the local Gazette for 6 years now, and he loved his colleagues. All of them were so passionate about journalism. They loved writing. Travelling too was a common passion among Sebastian and his colleagues and friends. They had seen most of Europe. But he found it always so pleasant to come back to Aachen.

He never wanted to get married, to the grim surprise of his family. Sebastian always loved to calibrate a number of people in his life as to not feel overwhelmed. He always found his life with just the right amount of everything. Maybe he was too German for his own good, his Belgian friends had always said.

But now he had something else on his mind. Looking up the costs and details for a Trip he always wanted to make. That was climbing the Mont Blanc. He had been climbing many mountains, hiking in the German Alps. He had already a friend who had done it. It was fascinating and he was always sorry he hadn’t had time to go then.

He found another enthusiast to share the trip with and it was almost settled. The equipment had been purchased, a guide had been contracted. It was now less than 3 months before the climb. Would it be as fun as he was expecting it? At least is was going to happen. He was planning on filming the trip and preparing a great material for the Gazette when he was coming back. His boss had sponsored some of the trips but most of the money had come from his friends. Friends who were tired of him talking about it. So they decided to help him just do it already.

Sebastian was a happy man. A happy man on his way to climb the Mont Blanc. He charged up with energy every time he saw the plane tickets on the refrigerator door. Soon there would be a photo of him on the mountain instead.

Bis bald!
