Friends of Van Cortlandt Park Launches First Annual Discovery Hunt

“Are you ready, get set, discover!”

So ends the just issued call by the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park launching the first ever Van Cortlandt Park Discovery Hunt. Open to all, contestants are challenged to solve 10 of 12 clues identifying various locations in the Park, photograph themselves at that location and submit their photos and identifying information to the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park. The contest launched April 7th and contestants have until May 15th to submit their solved clues and photos.

“This is a fun way to continue our efforts to engage our communities in one of the Bronx’ most precious assets, Van Cortlandt Park. We are also launching the Discovery Hunt during our 25th Anniversary Year as one of several unique initiatives celebrating the work of the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park since 1992,” said Christina Taylor, Executive Director of the FVCP.

The first five teams of 2-4 people successfully deciphering 10 of 12 clues will win the limited edition 25th Anniversary Friends of Van Cortlandt Park Baseball Cap.

Details about the contest and information about entering can be found at http://vancortlandt.org/great-van-cortlandt-park-discovery-hunt/

Friends of Van Cortlandt Park
FVCP now provides a wide variety of educational, stewardship and community benefit programs with the focus of Bringing Youth, Community and Nature Together!.  Over the next several years, in addition to our usual programming, FVCP will be dedicated to the implementation of projects in the 2034 Van Cortlandt Park Master Plan, which will guide the City’s restoration of Van Cortlandt Park’s natural beauty and provide solutions for the needs of all neighboring communities.  In the Master Plan are two signature initiatives for FVCP, (1) the completion of our 2009 Trails Plan, which was drafted by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference; and (2) the continued implementation of our newest initiative: “Wetland Stewardship for a Healthier Bronx,” which will improve the health of the existing wetlands and highlight the need to daylight Tibbetts Brook both inside and south of the Park.
