3,000 tickets sold for record breaking Shetland Wool Week

A ten-day celebration of everything wool will commence this weekend at the Shetland Wool Week, with over 3,000 tickets sold for the event.

Seventh Heaven

This year (24th September – 2nd October) is the seventh anniversary of the event which celebrates and promotes knitwear and textiles.

Organisers have confirmed that nearly 200 events will be taking place across Shetland during the ten days, including:

  • A drop-in knitting, spinning and wheel clinic
  • The Fair Isle textile workshop open studio
  • Spinning wheel basket workshop
  • Making it contemporary exhibition

Attractions

The vast array and variety of exhibitions and events has attracted new visitors from as far away as Australia and Canada.

Misa Hay, Promote Shetland brand marketing manager, told shetnews.co.uk that membership numbers are up by 150% on last year.

“The event keeps going from strength to strength. It has truly grown into an internationally acclaimed festival as we prepare to welcome visitors from many different countries including America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand,” she said.

“We have also been completely blown away with the demand for our Shetland Wool Week annual, a unique publication packed with exclusive patterns, essays and interviews with top knitters.

“Over 2,600 copies have already been pre-ordered and we are expecting orders to increase once the publication is officially launched at Shetland Wool Week.”
