Unless you  have been living under a little red corvette,  you probably know that the world recently lost rock star and Minneapolis music icon Prince at the young age of 57.

A ton of speculation has been made regarding Prince’s death since the results of his April 22nd autopsy are still pending. What we do know so far is that in early April Prince was forced to postpone two performances in Atlanta. The reason for this was attributed to influenza in an official statement. However, the day after Prince did perform his plane was forced to make an emergency landing since he had become unresponsive and required medical treatment. In the next few days Prince was seen biking and making public appearances, but suddenly on the day before this death, Prince’s team contacted Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a nationally recognized opiate addiction expert, with a “grave medical emergency”. Kornfeld sent his son on an urgent overnight flight to Minneapolis but it was in vain. Kornfeld’s son Andrew and other members of Prince’s team discovered Prince unresponsive in an elevator in his Paisley Park Estate on the 21st of April. He was declared dead the same day.

As the public waits on the results of Prince’s autopsy, attention has turned to what will happen to Prince’s estate. All in all, the full value of the estate is estimated at nearly $300 million dollars. The complicating factor being that Prince reportedly never made a will. So far, discussions between Prince’s sister and five half siblings have been contentious, which is understandable. After all, how do you divide a purple guitar, and what is the best direction to go in regarding his brand and record label? Additionally, Prince’s half-brother has stated that within the estate there is a secret vault containing an untold, but presumably huge amount of unreleased music.

With so much money to be made between Prince’s relatives this story will probably take a while to play out. Despite Prince’s sister Tyka’s assertion that Prince has not left a will, the search for one continues nevertheless.
