Certification and Traceability in Oilfield Tools: Why It Matters To Us

There’s a lot of complexity going on behind the scenes before the oil even starts flowing from a production well.

Today’s oil and gas companies work with drillers, geological specialists and drilling mud suppliers. Their work is being done deeper and further off shore, in frozen arctic regions, in tar sands and in shale formations.

They also use sophisticated technologies and equipment. The tools used on a single drilling platform may have components from thousands of suppliers.

That’s why global oilfield service companies who manage the supply chain care about traceability. They need to know in real time the supplier and history behind every piece of equipment and every component.

The purpose of certification rules, compliance control and traceability is to reduce downtime and minimize safety and environmental problems. A faulty part can cause drilling operations to stop completely.Knowing where equipment came from, who made it, and what materials were used is vital to identifying these potential problems.

Keystone Energy Tools understands this. Our equipment comes with applicable certificates and the pedigree required by professionals in the drilling industry:

  • Also all of our drill pipe float valves are stenciled with a serial number and work order number and a security tag is attached.
  • All of our slips and elevators are traceable to material, heat treatment, load test, and mag particle inspection. All this equipment comes with full documentation. That means our tools can be sourced back to the material they were poured out of, who treated it, and where.
  • We even take things a step further and have full traceability on all of our inserts. Each insert is stenciled with batch code and heat treat code so we can trace it back to the material it was made from and the heat treatment certificates when they are carburized.

Keystone products can be traced back to the Heat Treatment certs and original material if any kind of problem comes up. This pedigree means quickly identifying any problems that come up so drilling doesn’t have to stop.

Oil and gas supply chain management is becoming increasingly complex. And it is crucial that companies not only trace all parts from origin to application but have the ability and resources to do so effectively. Trust Keystone to stand by its tools.
