Kid-Friendly Activities Around Rochester

Summer is drawing to a close and school is starting back up, but with a few months of great weather still ahead, Rochester has no shortage of fun things to do with the kids. From outdoor exploring to museums, you’ve got plenty of options in and around Rochester.

Kids’ Activities and Attractions in Rochester

The Great Outdoors

You and your child can enjoy biking, hiking, or rollerblading along the Erie Canal Trail. The paths are flat and wide so you don’t have to worry about your tiny adventurers taking a tumble off of the trail.

When ice cream o’clock hits, Jill Farrell, from our HUNT Brighton/Pittsford branch, likes to take her kids to Pittsford Farms Dairy for a delicious treat. After, they enjoy a stroll around the canal to feed the ducks and enjoy nature.

Hands-On Museums

Does your child like to touch everything in sight? At Strong National Museum of Play, that’s not a problem. Kids are encouraged to laugh, play, and touch every last thing. The museum also has a butterfly garden, the always popular Wegman’s super kids market, Sesame Street neighborhood, a history of video games exhibit and much more to discover.

Other great museums and centers in Rochester include Rochester Museum & Science Center, Eastman Museum, and Genesee Country Village & Nature Center.

Sports Games

Rochester Red Wings games are enjoyable for the entire family. Your child will love to see the mascot up close and personal, or plan to enjoy one of the many other events happening at the ballpark. Check out the schedule and take your kids out to the ball game.

Zoos

Let your kids go wild at the Seneca Park Zoo, home to lions, elephants, baboons and more. Not only will the zoo delight the animal lovers in your family, it can also foster a sense of appreciation for wildlife and increase awareness of these amazing animals.

Amusement Parks and Play Centers

Seabreeze Amusement Park is the fourth-oldest operating amusement park in America. There are plenty of rides for all sizes and thrill seekers. Catch some wind on a spinning coaster, or get some relief from the heat on the Log Flume.

If you seek more water, head to Roseland Waterpark or Darien Lake to cool off from the summer heat.

The newest active indoor play center, Altitude Trampoline Park, is gaining traction among families in the Rochester area. And what’s not to love about bouncing off the walls on a huge trampoline? Jump, play dodge ball, shoot some hoops, climb the rock wall, and more.

Deals and Tips for a Fun Outing in Rochester

HUNT agents and employees are active in the Rochester community and are always finding new deals and ways to make the most out of nice day.

Brenda Lloyd, HUNT Administrative Assistant, and her family get active outdoors and hike many of Rochester’s beautiful parks and other nearby parks.

“The Empire Passport is a great purchase if you love to visit the State Parks,” Brenda said. The passport provides unlimited day use vehicle entry to facilities operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

HUNT agent Bryan Brooks’ kids love to watch animals, so they frequent many zoos during summer. With the purchase of the Seneca Park Zoo season pass, you also get 50 percent off other participating Association of Zoos and Aquariums, like the Buffalo Zoo.

HUNT agent Chris Roman enjoys taking his children out into nature and camping at Letchworth, or Robert Treeman in Ithaca. Bring your own supplies and food for a camping trip that won’t break the bank.

Cindy Quinn, HUNT administrative assistant, uses Groupon.com to find great deals. You can also find more deals in Rochester at visitrochester.com.
