2022: Highlighting Company Growth and Sustainability Efforts

As Cyrusone welcomes the new year, we look forward to building upon the momentum of last year marked by several significant events and milestones which position us for a promising 2023.

Acquisition by KKR and GIP

After many years as a public company, CyrusOne was acquired by funds managed by KKR, a leading global investment firm, and Global Infrastructure Partners (“GIP”), one of the world’s leading infrastructure investors, positioning the company to capitalize on the acceleration in global growth opportunities driven by strong underlying secular demand trends.

New CEO and Strategic Hires

To lead the way, Eric Schwartz joined CyrusOne as CEO in October, charged with helping to accelerate the company’s growth and strengthen partnerships with customers. Schwartz previously served as an executive at Equinix for 16 years, including leading the EMEA region for over a decade, leading the development of data centers for large-scale customers, and playing an integral role as a member of the company’s global leadership team. Schwartz succeeded Dave Ferdman, who is now serving as a member of our Board.

In support of other leadership needs and growth initiatives, CyrusOne made several key hires and promotions in 2022 including Andreas Paduch as Area Vice President, European Sales; Anthony Rizzo as Vice President, Public Sector; Michael Nudelman as Senior Vice President of Project Development; Krishna Seetharam as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer; Bob Crespi as Senior Vice President, Portfolio Management; and Todd House as Senior Director of Global External Affairs.

Breaking Ground in Spain

¡Hola España! CyrusOne was excited to break ground on its first data center in Spain. Strategically located in the municipality of Alcobendas, the groundbreaking ceremony celebrated CyrusOne’s first facility in the Spanish market and the next step in the company’s continued growth across the continent. Additionally, CyrusOne announced two key hires to support our growing presence in Spain and across Europe: Mariana Bonino Alvarez as Commercial Manager and Amparo García Puente as Data Centre Development Manager.

Sustainability: Carbon Neutral Pledge Accelerated to 2030 Announcement – and More

CyrusOne is proud to be an industry leader in sustainable development, and 2022 saw a considerable number of company milestones and accolades, including accelerating our carbon-neutral pledge to 2030, moving up our previous 2040 commitment by a decade. We have identified ways through energy efficiencies, renewable energy purchases, and zero-carbon alternatives that will make this achievable. We are already 100% renewable energy across Europe, nine years ahead of schedule, and have our roadmap in place to attain carbon neutrality across the company by the end of this decade. Hitting this target will be an enormous milestone for CyrusOne, and we will get there by strongly executing our approach that includes improvement efforts in water, energy, circular economy, and biodiversity.

In 2022, CyrusOne announced the purchase of solar and wind energy from Gexa Energy, used to power its data centers in North Texas, as an important step in CyrusOne’s transition to 100% sustainable power. We also announced CyrusOne’s global headquarters is 100% renewable power and net water positive.

In August 2022, CyrusOne announced that it has received approval for the company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). At the Datacloud Global Congress conference in Monoco a month earlier, CyrusOne announced it joined the Infrastructure Masons (iMasons) Climate Accord (ICA), a coalition united on carbon reduction in digital infrastructure.

CyrusOne and its leaders received several recognitions and awards for sustainability efforts last year. We were awarded an EcoVadis Gold Level rating for sustainability efforts and accomplishments, a recognition that placed us in the 92nd percentile of more than 75,000 rated companies. CyrusOne received a Top Project of the Year Award in the Environment+Energy Leader Awards program for its comprehensive approach for reducing the total water impact of the flagship CyrusOne data center in Carrollton, Texas, a high water-stress region. Additionally, Kyle Myers, Vice President of Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability, was named to the 2022 Environment+Energy Leader 50 Honoree List. Two awards in the Business Intelligence Group’s 2022 Sustainability Awards program were received by CyrusOne, a Sustainability Service of the Year award recognizing our water-positive colocation services at our data center in Allen, Texas, and Myers was named one of the Sustainability Heroes of the Year. We also received a Sustainable Service Award at the 2022 SEAL Business Sustainability Awards for CyrusOne’s full-circle Colocation Services.

You can read the details of our amazing program in the 2022 Sustainability Report, updated after completing third-party assurance by ISOS Group, which led to improvements in data quality and select restatements.

2023: Executing Our Plan

We’re excited to carry the momentum from last year into 2023, focusing on our master plan for strategic growth in key global markets and our 2030 carbon-neutral commitment, among other goals. As always, we appreciate the contributions of our talented team members and the support of our valued customers.
