CyrusOne Inc, a market leading global data center developer and operator has today announced it has joined the Infrastructure Masons (iMasons) Climate Accord (ICA), a coalition united on carbon reduction in Digital Infrastructure. The announcement was made at the Datacloud Global Congress conference in Monaco, the premier leadership gathering for senior executives across the data centre, cloud, edge, digital infrastructure and AI industries.

The ICA was established in February 2022, when iMasons Advisory Council members met to agree upon an initiative they could action together as an industry to battle climate change. From there, the objective of the ICA has been global carbon accounting of digital infrastructure influencing market-based decisions to drive the industry to achieve carbon neutrality.

iMasons Advisory Council members pledge to develop and adopt an open standard – one that provides transparency, traceability and identification of the carbon history of an item – to report carbon in data center power, materials and products and a maturity model to report participant progress. The founding coalition companies will establish an independent governing body to define the standard methodology for measuring carbon, ensuring transparency across the industry. The work of the ICA is important because, at present, there is no globally agreed method of measuring ‘embodied carbon’ – the carbon footprint of a product or service prior to intended use, which can cover everything from mining to manufacturing to transportation and more.
