Through our Teacher Appreciation nominations, we were able to see exactly how our teachers are impacting our kids and community. We want to recognize each nomination that has come in. 1495 unique nominations and 525 teachers nominated, we are sharing the answers to our question posed: “Why does this teacher make you smile?”. The blogs are organized by last name of the teacher.

Teacher: Suzanne Naki, Clifford Lawrence Junior High School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mrs. Naki makes me smile because she smiles. Whenever I walk into her class, she always has a smile on her face. I chose her for teacher’s appreciation week because she is happy all of the time. She is smiling almost all the time when I walk in and walk out of her classroom. This is why Mrs. Naki puts a smile on my face.

Teacher: Ashley Nebe, Ed W. Clark High School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms.Nebe is a wonderful teacher. She is incredibly dedicated to her students and works to ensure that we all understand the material that is taught. She is also very receptive to class feedback and will change her lesson plan in accordance with what we think is best for our learning environment. She encourages discussion and free-thinking, and I am always excited about what we are learning each day. Every morning when I have her class, she has an upbeat attitude that sets a positive tone for the rest of my day. She also encourages mindfulness in her classroom through breathing techniques, an open learning environment, and cards with meaningful sayings. Finally, Ms. Nebe is one of our strongest advocates on campus for mental health: she is the advisor of our Hope Squad, and her door is always open if we ever need to talk with her about a situation that weighs heavily on our minds.

Overall, I am honored to nominate Ms. Nebe for Teacher Appreciation.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? 

She is literally one of the best teacher i have ever have and that kinda says a lot cause I have had a lot of teachers and she is one that i have never forgotten and never wish to forget my mom trusted enough to tell her what was going on at home and all the dumb decisions I was doing and she would always talk to me and tell me to think smarter and make better choices and i am now and i thank her for it not only was she my teacher in elementary she also was in middle school and that was so great to have her when in middle school so she can teach me even more and she taught me great things so that is why i wanna nominate her.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mrs.nelson makes me smile because she always greets us at the door with a smile, she helps us when she is busy, she makes jokes. She came to school pregnant to teach us which is something she didn't have to do but she did anyway, and she also came back to come teach us after her pregnancy and she is caring and nice she doesnt yell at us. Mrs nelson should Win.

Teacher: Cheyenne Newman, Robert L. Taylor Elementary School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Newman is an amazing teacher and wonderful with her students. She transformed her classroom in a matter of a few weeks. The children's behavior changed and were excited to learn in her class. All the staff have been seeing great changes coming from her class and I can’t wait to see what the next schoolyear holds for her.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mr.Nguyen is always working hard, hes very nice. If someone has a problem, he'll listen. He makes jokes while letting us know that we need to stay on task. He's great at the subject he teaches. He respects his co-workers. If were just learning to do something and we get it right, he'll get proud of us. He always has a great reason for what he decides/decided to. If we can’t figure out what to do he will try to figure out many different solutions.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Our daughter was very nervous about going to school. Mrs nichols worked so hard to make her feel welcomed and loved. We noticed and so did our daughter. Mrs nichols made the classroom a loving learning environment for the children to flourish.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? I am this teacher! I know that I am doing my best and giving my all every single day. These kids are my extended family and I love them dearly! That’s why I smile������

Kristan continuously goes above and beyond. She represents the spirit of of what all educators should be. She is an “all-in” professional and can back it up. Her students will remember her forever. We love her dedication and commitment to the students. Great work!

Kristan is the best teacher I know. I have had the pleasure of working alongside her for the past 6 years. Her passion for education children cannot be matched! She is fun, charismatic and has boundless energy. She is a team player who is always willing to help someone in need. Kristan makes me smile by simply being herself!

Kristan makes me smile because she is very personable and friendly with staff and students. She has a very positive person. She sees the good in people. She teaches kindergarten and greets her students with positive affirmations daily. Kristan speaks with her students with respect and real-life vocabulary. She pumps her students up when they are learning new curriculum. She gets them involved and vested. She is a leader and stands up for teachers and students. She always has smile on her face, which in turns puts a smile on our faces.

Mrs. Nigro always goes above and beyond for her students learning. My child has progressed so much since starting Kindergarten. We will truly miss Mrs.Nigro and how much she put the kids first!

Mrs. Nigro always has my child’s best interest at heart. She’s always updates us on my child’s progress and provides any tips on how to improve. Mrs nigro goes out of her way to make Learning fun for my child and she is very much appreciated!

Mrs. Nigro has an energy about her that no other teacher can match! I’ve been waiting for one of my kiddos to have her for kindergarten and finally my youngest son was assigned to her class, and she has been absolutely everything to him! Watching her with all of her kiddos always makes me smile because you can feel her genuine heart for all of them! The kids LOVE HER and the experiences that she has allowed her students to have throughout the school year has been above and beyond. I know that she pours her heart and soul into her classroom, and she is a true advocate. My son has recently experienced some health issues that has kept him away from school at times and not a day goes by where Mrs. Nigro hasn’t contacted me to check on him and see how he’s doing. She is truly a gift to anyone who crossed paths with her and especially anyone who has her for a teacher. Learning should be fun, and she breaks the mold when it comes to it!

Mrs. Nigro is always so chipper and outgoing. Every day I pick my son up and she opens the door with a big smile and positive attitude. She almost always has a little something to say about the kids' day.

Mrs. Nigro is an excellent teacher. My kindergartener has learned so much and she’s always available to answer any questions we may have.

Mrs. Nigro is the definition of a loving and caring teacher. She has such fun activities to help her kindergarten students learn the basics of reading and math. She is always incorporating hands on learning and giving students the structure and the foundation that they need to succeed their entire academic career. Mrs. Nigro is an integral member of her school and is a teacher that others go to, when needing advice.

She always has a super positive attitude and creates such a fun environment for her students.

She has made my son grow in so many aspects and cares so much about her students!

She is so caring and amazing with her kindergarten classroom. She goes above and beyond for them yearly and has the nonstop energy they need.

The way she carries herself around her students, her energy and positive attitude. How she is very involved in school activities during and after school. The experiences my daughter tells me when she comes home from her class make me smile.

We have been blessed to have her as a kindergarten teacher for both of our kids! She is a blessing, a teacher who truly loves what she does. She is so deserving of this award!

We love Mrs. Nigro! My son has grown and learned so much in his class and I can tell how much she loves seeing her class grow. My son says that he misses her anytime there is a break from school!

Every day I work with this awesome teacher and watch her engage with her kindergarten kids the past few years. The kids are excited to learn with her as well as the growth they show at the end of the year. We need more teachers like Kristan Nigro in the district to teach our kids to their fullest potential.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? This teacher makes me smile because she goes over and beyond for her students. She cares so much! I wish all teachers could be like her. I also adore how she took the time to make a scrap book of each child in her class and all of their achievements for the parents to keep. That's 30 students. She put love into each one.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms. Nygard is everything you would want from a teacher and more. She is super sweet, and her class is really fun. Ms. Nygard always puts her students first by giving them plenty of time with her students if they have missing work. She always brings positive energy to her classroom and every time I see her, I always get excited and happy. She also always makes sure her students have a great time in her class. In all, Ms. Nygard is the best teacher and deserves this award because she is always positive and cares about all her students more than most teachers!

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? He likes to help all of us not just one person and he also taught me music that i have never played before and i am thankful for him being my band teacher and he always help student after school if they need it and it makes me smile when i know he will always help anyone with anything.

Teachers play a significant role in our lives, and we are thankful for them and all they do for our community every single day. We understand how important their job is in student development and learning and know they work tirelessly to educate children and add value to their lives! Thank you, you are our heroes!
