Through our Teacher Appreciation nominations, we were able to see exactly how our teachers are impacting our kids and community. We want to recognize each nomination that has come in. 1495 unique nominations and 525 teachers nominated, we are sharing the answers to our question posed: “Why does this teacher make you smile?”. The blogs are organized by last name of the teacher.

Teacher: Shianne Kalarchik, Manuel Cortez Elementary School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? She goes above and beyond. And she made sure my daughter has improved so much and has been very patient which definitely makes me smile.

Teacher: Rachel Kaplan, Escobedo Junior High School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? This teacher is the only licensed Math teacher in the entire school. She has tried to do Student Counsel and attends many school events. She has had some medical issues and has been in and out of work (mostly for the students). Her admin at her school has fought to decline her FML and it is disgusting. She has continued to work through her medical issues and the terrible environment at her school. She deserves so much more than we can ever give her.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? She is a great Japanese teacher! Always making all her students have such a fun time with her jokes, stories, interesting activities! She makes me and all my classmates feel so comfortable and always makes me excited to go to her class!!

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Ms Kathan goes above and beyond!! Kristina is my daughter’s 1st grade teacher this year and she exemplifies the statement “no child left behind.” In a classroom full of kids, she has taken the extra time to help my daughter become more comfortable with reading. I truly believe it is because of her time, support and focus that my daughter is succeeding. She continues to do things out of the relm of “her job” and I am forever grateful for her, she deserves all the recognition.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mr. Kelley makes me smile because he’s funny and knows how to crack a joke. He is also very helpful and won’t let a student fall behind or stay stuck on a problem. Mr. Kelley is also a nice, kind, caring, and hard-working teacher. He is someone you would want be around all the time and in his class because he makes you feel welcome and safe. That’s why Mr. Kelley makes me smile.

Because he is nice, treats everyone equally, his class is very fun, and he is also funny.

He gives us easy work for health, and he’s chill.

He makes pe really fun for my class and he always makes games fun to play overall.

He motivates people and listen to them.

Mr.Kim makes me smile because he’s very nice and chill I can talk to him as a friend and a teacher and makes PE fun.

They have a different kind of teaching technique the teacher treats us as if were the same age as them and were really good friends with them. He can be a little strict sometimes thou.

This teacher makes me smile because free time is very fun and i love soccer and i could play soccer there.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? The best teachers are made of two essential concepts: the ability to teach students something that will stick with them for life and an attitude that will touch their hearts. Throughout middle school, I maintained the belief that all teachers fall short on both these points. I was immediately disproven when I entered Mrs. La Roche’s fifth/sixth-period English class. She is more than just a teacher; she isa storyteller, a cheerleader, and a major character in the novels of all her students’ lives. Mrs. La Roche makes me smile purely because she imbues life into everyone around her, even the most disinterested eighth graders. Because of this, I want to thank her with all of my heart for making my last year of middle school so memorable, and I promise I will use the word ‘duality’ as many times as possible in high school. In the novel of my life, I will never forget the chapter she penned herself into or the joy of kerfuffling in her classroom.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? He gives students a safe place to be themselves, free of judgement. I don’t have to worry about other students because I know Mr. Laas would be there for me if I needed it, even if i wasn’t able to explain everything for whatever reason.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mrs. Law is a very dedicated teacher. She loves animals and spend alot of time at the school’s animal lab to take care of the many animals in the lab. She runs the zookeepers club and my children love to go to school as one of their highlights is spending time with the bunnies. Mrs. Law loves to nature leaders and that is evident by the time she spends supporting children who want to participate at spelling bee competitions. She is humble and very friendly. She deserves the biggest medal ever for being who she is. I can only imagine the hours she spends at the animal lab taking care of all the wonderful animals. She is a trophy.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? She helped act better in 3rd grade now. I act better than I was.

She was so patient and never yelled, she always makes the work easy and fun at the same time.

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mrs. Lee is a teacher that helps students in and out of class. She also helps me with my problems that don’t involve school. She listens when students need help. She’s also really nice and caring.

Ms. Lee makes me smile because she helps me learn a lot of math. I really like her hair too. She has always been there for me when i was a mess. Thank you Ms.Lee :D.

She helps me out with math that I struggle on. And makes things easier to understand. I enjoy being in that class.

This teacher has been incredibly supportive and understanding this year in both classes I have with her. If I don’t make a deadline, she’s flexible in helping me get my assignments in on time as well. She’s incredibly funny and I look forward to both her US History lectures as well as her polite commentary on tribulations at our school. I’ve never had a teacher be more helpful when I’m in the process of writing an academic paper, or learning about the early 19th century Progressivism, and I will definitely miss her when the school year ends.

He has never judged me or made fun of me he is very nice, chill, and respectful. He will always let me leave to go talk to someone when he sees something is wrong and he always checks up on me and considers my feeling and opinions.
