Teacher: Azzeneth Hernandez, CC Ronnow Elementary School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? She is very helpful.

She taught me one of the hardest subjects in elementary. Without her I would not be in these accelerated classes, and i am glad she was able to stay at Ronnow. Her and her assistant, I can’t spell her name, Ms. G. They both were so nice and welcoming to talk to. I love stories they would tell sometimes. She was so nice and smart she’s the best teacher to have. I loved all the activities and how friendly she was to me. Her rewards of spoiling us was such a great experience, my life would not have been the same without her.

Teacher: Willy Herrera, West Career and Technical Academy

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Coming into high school, I knew my strengths and weaknesses. One of them was science. I wasn’t very excited for high school and was really scared to make friends. In the beginning of the year, I remember disliking biology because of the people I was around. I didn’t enjoy the class very much, but Mr. Herrera allowed me to change seats and I found a few of my first friends. I then met one of my closest friends later in the year. We always stuck together and made the best biology projects. Mr. Herrea was super proud of our project that he even let us sit next to each other. Mr. Herrea not only helped me make friends, but he also made me step out of my comfort zone. From making basic poster presentations, to singing Justin Bieber parodies of our lessons. Most importantly, he helps me learn. For the first time in a while, I actually understand the lessons we learn in biology. Mr. Herrera is extremely kind and makes class fun by making jokes with the class as we’re learning. Mr. Herrera has made science class enjoyable for me and I’m super grateful for that.

They teach me more than just biology. They are like my family; I never get to speak Tagalog in school, but I get to practice with Mr. Herrera. They acknowledge every student’s achievement and no accomplishment goes unnoticed. They are courteous to their students and push us to be our best.

This teacher really stood out from anyone else since the first day of school. As a incoming freshman, it was important for me to find a teacher that’s trustworthy and is able to help me anytime I’m struggling. This teacher made that possible since day 1 and made sure every single student attending class felt needed. He’s more than that too. I am able to discuss anything I need without being embarrassed or shy. He’s always there for me or even anyone. I also feel really comfortable in his class and every single class of his was not boring or I didn’t feel left out. He made sure everyone expressed their ideas and thoughts even if they were wrong or right. His teaching skills were really efficient making sure everyone learned. The main thing I love about this teacher is how easily he is able to connect and bind with people allowing them to feel safe and valuable in his class. This is why West Tech is lucky to have a teacher such as Mr. Herrera.

Teacher: Thomas Higgins, Foothill High School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Mr. Higgins is so funny and sweet. He helps teach one of the (if not THE) most complicated subjects at this school (Physics) in a fun way that STILL gets the information through our heads. He’s not afraid to entertain our minds and souls, and he makes class fun and exciting. He helps us pass the class and also helps us learn cool and exciting things.

Teacher: Kimberlee Hixon, Shelley Berkley Elementary School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Dr. Hixon always puts the children first. I can tell she is passionate about teaching. She tries to make learning fun and exciting. My daughter has a speech delay, and she has progressed so much since she has been in Dr. Hixon’s class.

She absolutely loves being a teacher and anyone who encounters knows it.

She made it a point to meet each of her students over the summer and provide them with special treasures in preparation for the coming year.

She teaches her students to their individualized needs and communicates consistently with parents, so their child gets the best education based on their learning style.

Her students love her, often times racing to give her hugs in the AM and afternoon… because she makes sure they all are seen, and they recognize that. She makes learning fun but never sways from the importance of encouraging, inspiring and challenging them.

She works incredibly hard to truly make a difference in the life of not only her students, but the lives of their families, as well. She genuinely loves all of her students and looks forward to going to work every day. She does home visits, goes to birthday parties, and takes a personal interest in her students’ lives, besides providing an excellent education for each one-off them.

Teacher: Lisa Hoeg, John R. Hummel Elementary

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile? Because Ms.Hoeg is the only teacher in this school that makes me happy. She makes me smile almost every day and she is a very kind teacher.

Because she lets us make up for all our work. And she also lets us do missing work that we did at the start of the school year. She also helps us learn the way we are supposed to do the work and how to remember the way to solve it.

The little things she does as a teacher like leaving comments on all assignments are something that doesn’t go unnoticed, and I respect the effort she makes for her students. Ms. Ross is always supportive of me and my goals and always offers to help me. I feel comfortable around her and her classroom environment, and I know I can always reach out to her if I need to. I appreciate Ms. Ross greatly for her efforts as a teacher and her kindness as a person. This is what makes me smile.
