Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile?

She has a beautiful heart and soul she’s the most loving and amazing teacher/woman I’ve ever met.

My children and I are super blessed and great full for having her in our lives3years strong and more to

She loves each and every kid she teaches, and they love her just as much!

She has so much passion and love for teaching and all her students each year. She truly cares about their life and future.

Through my last two years of high school, one of which was behind masks, Ms. B has been source of joy in my life. She spent our classes truly explaining concepts to us, but she also wasn’t afraid to make it fun. She re-inspired me to pursue my passion of writing, and now I am writing novels. She is always there when I need an ear, but most of all she truly creates meaningful connections with her students, if you ask any student of hers, I think you will get similar responses and stories. Stories of sitting in her comfort chair, being able to sit in her class and take a breather, stories of funny moments and ones that will live on in our memory. Her students connect on such a deeper basis, that stories are shared between different periods despite majority of us not being close friends outside of her class. I think that is a true testament to the community that she is able to create. I don’t have her class anymore, but I still drop in sometimes just to say hi or to give updates on my life.

Ms. B is the most caring and amazing teacher I have ever had. Every day when I walk into her class, I know I can be myself and don’t have to worry about being judged or misunderstood. She understands that school is more than just straight A’s and being the best at everything and she makes it ok to not be the best. She has taught me that my worth does not come from my academic excellence and makes me feel valued every single day. Her classroom is a safe bubbly place just like she is. I am forever grateful for her kind would and loving heart.

Teacher: Latisha Black, Swainston Middle School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile?

My teacher makes me smile by making me laugh.

Teacher: Kelsey Blackburn, Howard Hollingsworth Elementary

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile?

Ms. Blackburn amazes me with how much she goes above and beyond in all she does. Her rapport with her students, parents and coworkers is unbelievable. She spends endless hours creating and implementing different ways she can connect with and assist her students both in the classroom academically and in their lives outside of school. She has a heart of gold and loves ALL of her students and her school immensely! Her personality and smile are contagious and it’s obvious in her students faces. A+Teacher!!

Because she is making a difference every single day with her students! She shows up with energy smiles and unconditional love for every and all obstacles that are put in her way. Both in her classroom and in her personal life.

Kelsey is the true definition of “do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

The passion and genuine care for her students is unmatched. She goes above and beyond to ensure her students are learning and comprehending the material. Not only that but learning how things that will set them up for success in life in general.

I wish I would have had a teacher like Ms. Blackburn when I was a student.

Kelsey is very passionate about her kids. Seeing the joy they bring to her, and the joy she brings to them is so heartwarming. The best role model and influence

Ms. Blackburn gives everything she has to her students; she treats them like kids of her own and goes out of her way to support them and their families.

She is always making jokes to make as laugh and very nice teacher.

She is always making sure that her students and everyone is okay. She always strives for the best.

She is the best, she is kind, respectful and she makes my daughter a better student every day.

She’s extremely passionate about teaching and helping kids. She always goes the extra mile to make sure her kids have the best opportunity to succeed.

She’s the best.

This teacher constantly goes above and beyond for both her students and her loved ones in life. She puts the needs of others first and consistently stands as a role model for others to follow after. She is kind, strong, and a light in this world. Her care for others is incomparable, which she demonstrates in the love she spreads inside and outside the classroom. Recently, she took the time over the summer to travel to Africa and expand her horizons by teaching Tanzanian natives who wish to learn English. By doing so, she gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of education and humanitarianism. Her effort to teach beyond the comfort of her own classroom demonstrates the passion she has for making an impact on others. I’m appreciative for all her hard work to improve the experience for kid’s learning and to provide support to those who may not receive enough at home. Her generosity, lovingness, and adaptability is what makes her an incredible teacher.

Ms. Blackburn puts her heart and soul into loving and teaching each student she has. She just has a special way of communicating with the students that makes them want to learn from her. Children with emotional and academic disabilities seem to really attach to Ms. Blackburn and try their best for her. Ms. Blackburn truly cares for each child that she teaches. Showing appreciation for her hard work would make each one of her kids smile

Ms. Blackburn lights up the room when she walks in it. She is passionate about teaching and her students always come first. She is truly deserving of this honor.

Every spare moment she has is spent seeking ways to uplift and ignite excitement in her students. She never stops seeking creative ways to grow and enrich the minds of those she teaches.

She has the best personality and demeanor ever.

Every year she creates a theme to help build you students’ self-esteem. When supplies are needed and funds are lacking, she organizes fundraising and enlists friends and family to donate. She puts in whatever time a student needs to help them learn. Every child’s education is important and she’s a dedicated educator.

Felicia is a fantastic teacher, a natural motivator and, year after year, encourages her AP Environmental Science and Geoscience students to eagerly continue in higher levels of science. I have been Felicia’s colleague for the past 10 years and can truly say that it is a pleasure to observe her classroom and witness the energy that goes into each of her lessons. Her students understand that high standards are expected of them, and they always accept the challenge and manage to exceed it. Ms. B. is also the curriculum area specialist for our science department, which is the most active and involved department in the school . . . because of Ms. B.! The administration and students at our school appreciate Ms. Bonanno’s dedication to the school. Come watch her integrate such a wealth of expertise into her science instruction in a most engaging way! It will surely give you something to smile about! She is organized to perfection, offers hands-on experience and extensive activities to make her subject come alive.

Teacher: Brian Boyars, West Career and Technical Academy

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile?

Dr. Boyars has a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He can work in any science related industry, but he chooses to be a teacher. He wakes up every day at 5AM ready to be at work at 6:42 AM so that he can inspire young minds. He has been teaching for 12 years and has taught everything from AP and regular chemistry to physics. Right now, he is teaching foundations of science to help students that were impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic. This class provides these students with an opportunity to catchup to the science level they need to be at so that they can succeed at more advanced classes in the future. He is an admirable teacher with a binder full of accolades.

Teacher: David Bradbury, Las Vegas Academy of the Arts

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile?

This teacher has made my junior year more pleasant by just existing. He’s a physics teacher and I’m in physics honors. Since day one, I knew he was going to be a good teacher as he bought everyone’s notebook for them so we could begin early in the year with his own money. He had a loud but attention-grabbing voice to my dismay some days as I am very tired a lot of

the days. He’s said that he specifically talks like that to keep people’s attention and it works as most people in my class love his lectures (including me). He makes physics simple and is willing to walk around and help each group when we do group projects (which is labs and pretty much most of the time). Recently, we’ve been doing an auditory experiment with instruments that we make with a budget of less than $40 dollars. At first, we heard that our principal, Mr. Walker, would be funding the project and to try to save as much money as possible. Another class later and we heard that he was no longer funding our projects according to Mr. Bradbury. He then continued to say that we would continue the project with him (and his wife, who I think he lied to about what he was doing with said money) funding us but to try and keep the cost extra low and to return our receipts and change. Most people cut so much, like my own group, to less than 20 dollars and to buy more supplies ourselves to help him. I think he should receive the award for his honorable teaching style and his eagerness to help students in need.

Teacher: Reva Brandt, Las Vegas High School

Why Does This Teacher Make You Smile?

Ms. Brandt makes me smile because she is always smiling. She has an infectious smile that brightens the room. Her daily positive outlook is the reason why some of her students come to school.
