Video Showing Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Assaulting His Girlfriend Goes Viral: 'I'm Truly Sorry'

20/05/2024

What happens behind closed doors, is supposed to remain hidden behind those doors. But when information about it leaked, things can certainly get out of hand.

Especially when that information involves a high-profile celebrity. And not to mention, things can get even more uncontrollable when the internet is involved.

Sean "Diddy" Combs, also known by his stage name Diddy, and formerly P. Diddy and Puff Daddy, is an American rapper, record producer and record executive. With achievements that include being listed on Guinness World Record for "Most Successful Rap Producer" in 1997, Diddy is the recipient of many awards and accolades.

And this time, a video of him assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, went viral on the internet and social media

"I'm truly sorry," he said.

At first, Sean Combs and his representatives were silent.

But as backlash mounted, including from people who commented on his old social media posts, Diddy needed something to say.

Diddy apologized through an Instagram post, 48 hours after CNN published an exclusive hotel surveillance video from 2016 in which Diddy appeared to grab, shove, drag and kick Cassie.

The incident happened during an altercation that matches allegations in a now-settled federal lawsuit filed by Cassie in November.

"It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that," the mogul said in the video.

"I was fucked up - I hit rock bottom - but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable."

"I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I am disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now."

While Diddy didn't mention Cassie's name in the video, his apology is clearly addressed to whoever considers the assault unacceptable.

He added in his statement that he "went and I sought out professional help."

"I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry," he said.

"But I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry."

In the video, Cassie is seen exiting a hotel room and walks to a bank of elevators. Diddy, holding a towel around his waist, runs down a hall after her, grabs her by the back of the neck, and throws her to the floor. Still holding the tower with one hand, Diddy kicks her.

As Cassie lies on the floor, the celebrity is seen retrieving a purse and suitcase, before kicking Cassie again.

He then briefly drags Cassie by her sweatshirt toward a room before walking away.

In the complaint, it's said that Diddy was "extremely intoxicated" and punched Cassie in the face, "giving her a black eye."

And after he fell asleep, she tried leaving the hotel room, but failed because Diddy woke up, and "followed her into the hallway of the hotel while yelling at her," the complaint said.

"He grabbed at her, and then took glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape," the complaint alleged.

"Upon realizing that her running away would cause Mr. Combs to be even angrier with her, and completely stuck in his vicious cycle of abuse, Ms. Ventura returned to the hotel with the intention of apologizing for running away from her abuser," the complaint continued.

"When she returned, hotel security staff urged her to get back into a cab and go to her apartment, suggesting that they had seen the security footage showing Mr. Combs beating Ms. Ventura and throwing glass at her in the hotel hallway."

The complaint alleges Diddy paid the InterContinental Century City a hefty $50,000 to obtain the hallway security footage.

When contacted by CNN, a representative for InterContinental Hotels said that the hotel "is no longer under IHG management, and we do not have any access to prior incident records or footage."

According to his Cassie's attorney, Meredith Firetog, the apology "is more about himself than the many people he has hurt."

"When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday. That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words," she said.

Previously, Diddy denied the allegations in Cassie's November lawsuit, where Cassie claimed in a 35-page complaint, that she was raped in 2018, and was subjected to years of repeated physical and other abuses by the singer.

Diddy also denied forcing Cassie to engage in sexual intercourse and various of other sex acts with other men during their relationship.

The suit was resolved the following day.

But things didn't stop there, because Diddy has also denied through his spokesperson the allegations from the five other civil suits that were filed against him following Cassie's.

Diddy's attorney said that the allegations and claims were all "lies," suggesting that the plaintiffs are motivated by financial gain and public notoriety.

"Enough is enough," he said on Instagram.

"For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy," he wrote. "Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth."

Following the leak, Cassie received support from users on social; media, with many others launching barrages of hate comments to Diddy, further staining his reputation.

"Men who hit women aren’t men. Men who enable it and protect those people aren’t men,” said Alex Fine, a personal trainer and Ventura’s husband.

"As men violence against women shouldn’t be inevitable, check your brothers, your friends, and your family. Our daughters, sisters, mothers, and wives should feel protected and loved. Hold the women in your life with the upmost regard. Men who hurt women hate women."

Sean "Diddy" Combs and Casandra Ventura when they were still together.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office issued a statement saying it was “aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles.”

“We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch,” the statement posted on Instagram reads.

“If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted. As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr. Combs, but we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to our office for support from our Bureau of Victims Services,” the district attorney’s office said.
