Online Gambling is somehow an endemic in Indonesia, and the government is doing what it can to curb the spread of apps and websites that allow such activity.

But A-lister Wulan Guritno instead promoted it.

Because of this, the actress is summoned by the Indonesian National Police's Cyber Crime Unit (Bareskrim Polri) following her endorsement.

Brigadier General Adi Vivid Agustiadi Bachtiar, the head of the Cyber Crime Unit, mentioned that they would investigate the promotion of the online gambling site.

"This means we will conduct a clarification, we will summon those involved, as previously stated, and assess whether the elements of the case are met or not," Brigadier General Adi Vivid stated at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday, August 30.

Based on their investigation, Wulan Guritno's promotional video was made in 2020, but only made headlines recently, as people began talking about it.

As a result, Wulan's name becomes a trending topic on social media platforms, including on Twitter-turned X.

"Regarding the matter of actress Wulan Guritno, after our investigation, it was made in 2020. The website is still active until now," he continued.

In addition to Wulan Guritno, the police have identified a number of other social media influencers, celebrities, and public figures who are also suspected of promoting online gambling sites.

The police plans to gradually summon all individuals suspected to be involved.

"Yesterday, there were several names that went viral, and we will certainly follow up on them. We will follow up, and if the elements of a criminal offense are met, we will definitely process them," Brigadier General Adi Vivid said.

He added that those promoting online gambling sites could be charged under the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE).

"For now, stop promoting online gambling. Because there are many victims, and many people become impoverished. Regarding influencer-related issues, we can apply the ITE Law Article 45 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph 2, which carries a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a fine of around Rp1 billion," he stated.

Indonesia, the massive archipelago in Southeast Asia, is a Muslim-majority country.

While it is not a strictly an Islamic country but rather a democratic and diverse nation with a principle of Pancasila, which promotes unity among various religions and beliefs, the legal system in the country are greatly influenced by Islam.

And gambling is one of the things Islam strictly forbids.

In the video Wulan made, it was claimed that the online gambling site is a "certified online gaming site."

This is clearly a false claim, because Indonesia never certifies gambling of all sorts.

"I have clearly told influencer friends, actors, and celebs to stop promoting gambling right now. Remember that there are many victims, many people have become impoverished, and some women have resorted to selling themselves to make money for online gambling," Adi Vivid said.
