We launched Zumper almost 8 years ago with the mission of making renting an apartment as easy as booking a hotel.

Although the principle of fairness has always been central to our ethos, we never formally set specific standards about the way our community should work together. In these unprecedented times, now more than ever, we need to ensure that members of our community can engage with one another safely, respectfully, and with confidence.

With the industry-leading enhancements made to Instarent last week, Zumper created a safe and trusted place where landlords and renters could come together to transact and sign their leases completely digitally without the need to meet physically in-person. As we continue to move at pace to evolve the leasing experience to meet new expectations, it became clear that now was the time to set the foundation and lay these principles out clearly and upfront.

Our Community Values represent three core beliefs about our platform:

1. Inclusive. Zumper is built for everyone. We believe that everyone deserves a fair shot and a safe place to call home. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination with regard to race, color, nationality, age, gender identity, marital status, religion, sexual orientation, or disability.
   
2. Safe. Zumper is a platform where you can rent with confidence. Finding your next home or deciding to rent out your property are momentous decisions, and we are committed to providing a safe place for our community to do both. 
   
3. Respectful. At Zumper, we value honest, courteous, and prompt communication between both landlords and renters. Renters have a right to understand when they have (or have not) found their next home. And landlords deserve to know if they’ve found their next tenant. 

We believe these values will help us create an inclusive marketplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to rent with confidence while we continue to deliver on the promise of making renting a more seamless experience. Over the coming months, you can expect to see additional offerings on Zumper in line with these values.
