The 5 Best Restaurants in San Antonio

The food scene in San Antonio is sometimes seen as a mix between Tex-Mex and chain restaurants; but, you might be surprised to know that quite a few local eateries are serving up something a little different. Hungry for a the tastiest pancakes in San Antonio? How about donuts and fried chicken on the same plate? You might just be in luck! Here are the 5 best restaurants in San Antonio.

Cured

Located at the trendy Pearl Brewery, Cured is where to go to see and be seen in San Antonio. It doesn’t hurt that it also makes some of the best Charcuterie boards in town. The meats are all cured in-house for anywhere from one month to one year, and they’re supplemented by pickled veggies, wasabi mustard, and a variety of aged cheeses. Plus the rustic interior of Cured provides the perfect ambiance for an after-work happy hour, when all house cocktails are 50% off. Come on the weekend for brunch and try their brunch-specific cocktails–try the Brunch Bramble made with gin, absinth, and blackberry–and menu items like fried chicken and donuts with jalapeño syrup.

Feast

Brunch, cocktails, outdoor seating prime for people watching? Feast has it all. Located in the King William district, one of the top neighborhoods in San Antonio, Feast is a great spot if you’re looking for an exciting brunch option. On Sundays, they even hire a DJ to get the music bumping in the background for your boozy brunch. Their almond pistachio french toast dunked in cinnamon and orange and topped with blackberries is perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth, and the Eggs in Hell, three baked eggs covered in a spicy tomato sauce with a side of grilled bread and charred lemon polenta, is a fantastic hangover cure. Don’t forget to try the donut of the day, too. Their brunch cocktails are reasonable–only $7 or $8 depending on which you choose–and the atmosphere can’t be beat.

Gino’s Deli

Alright, hear us out on this one. Gino’s Deli might be housed inside of a Stop N Buy on Huebner Road, but its sandwiches are, arguably, the best in San Antonio. Take, for example, the Rabbi Scott: a blend of 1/4 Lb Ribeye Steak, hickory smoked turkey, pepperoni, sautéed onions, and sautéed bell peppers smothered in thick slices of American cheese and Smoked Italian Provolone. Or, try their famous Philly Cheesesteak; it is, after all, one of the reasons Gino’s Deli landed a spot on Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2018. You can’t go wrong with any of the options at this local hotspot, though, so try a few things and pick your favorite for yourself.

Magnolia Pancake Haus

If you’re looking for the best breakfast in the city, locals will tell you to head straight to Magnolia Pancake Haus. Known nationally for their appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Magnolia makes “the World’s Best” buttermilk pancakes, and is certainly the most well-known pancake house in San Antonio. Not in the mood for the sweet stuff? Magnolia Pancake Haus also makes a hearty Reuben sandwich, complete with shaved, house-cured beef brisket, sauerkraut and Swiss, served on grilled pumpernickel. The wait-staff is friendly, approachable, and will make you feel right at home. Magnolia’s is certainly one of the best restaurants in San Antonio.

Danny Boy’s Hamburgers

From the outside, this neighborhood joint might look like a dive. Trust us when we say it’s anything but that. Danny Boy’s serves up some downright delicious hamburgers and it all starts with fresh meat purchased daily by owner and operator Danny Uranga. Grab a double bacon cheeseburger, try the AC/DC cheeseburger with grilled onions and jalapeños, or stick to a simple, yet delicious classic burger. Stop in for a bite and you’re almost certain to meet Danny before he flips your mouthwatering burger. This joint is fairly new, but we’re certain it’ll make its way up the ladder and soon be known as one of the best restaurants in San Antonio.

The list could go on, but we’ll stop at 5. San Antonio is growing, and so is its food scene, so there will surely be new restaurants that make our list in the future. Ready to live in the Alamo City? Check out our apartments for rent and get excited to take on San Antonio.
