Air cargo tracking the market and its new growth

The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) forecast for the years between 2014 and 2018 indicate that air transportation is going to show a phenomenal annual growth rate, with the freight volumes showing the greatest increase in the Middle East, India and Africa. With an expected growth rate of 4%, it’s no wonder more and more companies are entering the transport business. This is good news for customers because air cargo tracking has never been easier; all you have to do is go to your prefered forwarder website and track your pakage and cargo.

IATA’s Director General and CEO, Tony Tyler said,”Air cargo remains as vital to the global economic system as ever. It is welcome to see a forecast for a return to growth for the Air Cargo sector after several years in the doldrums. An average of more than 4% growth for the next five years would be a marked improvement on the performance of recent years. Since 2011, for example, growth in freight tonnes has averaged just 0.63% per year.” India was given a special mention owing to the stupendous revenue generation that was expected from it – growth at 6.8% annually. The US is expected to lead the international freight market by the end of 2018, while India would get a safe spot in the top ten numbers. It’s estimated supply is pegged at over 10,050,000 tonnes of cargo, which is almost double of China’s 5,600,000 tonnes. The other players (in no particular order) will be – Germany, UAE, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and UK.

Of course, companies all over the world are scurrying to make their user experience the smoothest, which is why air cargo tracking has never been simpler. Just track the flight status online by going to your forwarder website and filling in your receipt/shipment number in the search box for tracking air freights. When the air transport statistical data is separated according to regions, the  Asia Pacific region showed the maximum growth at almost 22%, followed by Europe Asia at a distant 12%. A special mention was also given to Iraq because in the category of countries with over 100,000 tonnes of air cargo transportation, Iraq led the way at a 7% annual growth. But since its base was low, the growth isn’t expected to be enough to make a mark in 2018 because it will be adding merely 44,000 tonnes of additional freight.

Tyler said,”Geopolitical concerns, volatility of oil prices and competition from rail and sea could also affect this forecast. The air cargo industry certainly cannot afford to be complacent.” He warned that despite all the positive statistical growth,”the overall risks to the economic outlook, and therefore to air freight, remain towards the downside. Trade protectionism is a constant danger.”

By the end of the year 2014, 35% of the world’s stocks/goods/shipments/consignments will have been shipped by air, with their value hovering at around $6.8 trillion. Gone are the days when you didn’t know whom to contact and whether or not their transport rates were fair. Today, a simple search on Google will reveal what different companies are charging for the same weight of freight. Not only this, air cargo tracking has been made very simple and transparent because now you can easily track the flight status online!
