How to Use a Commercial Spray Foam Insulation Kit

If you have worked with Spray Foam for a while, you know it is important to be prepared for anything. While powerful machines like the Reactor 2 E-3O and PHX-40 are highly recommended for jobs that require high volume, there are also moments when you need to circle back and do minor touch-ups. Or, you may have an occasional small job that does not merit the purchase of an additional small spray foam machine.

Whenever you need an extra hand to do small jobs, a commercial Spray Foam Insulation kit can be quite handy to have on your rig. But how do you use commercial spray foam insulation kits? Here is a simple guide on how to use them from Intech Equipment and Supply.

Touch N’Seal Foam Kits

At Intech equipment and supply, we stand by two commercial spray foam insulation kits: the Touch N’Seal Foam Kit U2-600 and the Touch N’Seal U2-120. The U2-600 yields up to 600 board feet of 1.75lb density closed-cell spray foam. It is made to complete touch-ups to wall insulation and cold storage, with the ability to reach tight areas.

The U2-120 yields 120 board feet of 3lb density closed-cell spray foam, and is best suited for supplementing new roofing applications, fixing blisters, pitch pockets, and parapet corners. Knowing how to use the kits effectively gets the most out of them. The spray foam from these kits dries in less than a minute, making them convenient for going over a project to make any last-minute details — even in high-traffic areas.

Detailed Instructions Included

If you are worried about using a commercial spray foam insulation kit for the first time, rest assured that Touch N’Seal makes it easy to get the job done. Each kit comes with a set of detailed instructions that are easy to follow for both seasoned pros and novices. There are also helpful YouTube videos online in case you need a visual guide. Everything is designed to be easy for a first-time user, with clear labels and an intuitive setup. Here are the basic steps to operate a Touch N’Seal spray foam insulation kit.

  • Step 1: Remove the instructions and accessories from carton A.
  • Step 2: Gently punch out the perforated circle on each material carton and connect the hoses to the A and B material tanks. The hoses are color-coded to match the corresponding tanks, so it is easy to get this right.
  • Step 3: Tighten each hose onto the tanks with the provided wrench.
  • Step 4: With the spray foam lock trigger engaged, fully open the tank valves counterclockwise for three full turns.
  • Step 5: Spray the applicator (without the nozzle) into a waste container for a test spray until you see two distinct streams of material.
  • Step 6: Apply lubricant to the applicator’s barrel and then attach the nozzle to the applicator.
  • Step 7: Do a test spray on a piece of cardboard to ensure the materials mix properly.
  • Step 8: Commence spraying the foam.
  • Step 9: To shut down the system for future use or disposal, engage the safety lock on the applicator, remove the nozzle, wipe the foam from the barrel with a clean rag, close both tank valves, then store everything in a warm, dry area with a temperature between 60 degrees F and 120 degrees F. If you plan to use it again, it must be within 30 days.

When it is time to throw away your used spray foam insulation kit, please do so according to your local regulations so that you protect the environment.

Additional Tips

Before you begin spraying, there are some additional safety steps that Touch N’Seal recommends:

  • Wear protective gear to cover all of your skin. Wear gloves, safety glasses, and coveralls. A Tyvek suit is excellent to protect your clothes from overspray, while an OSHA-approved respirator will keep you from breathing in fumes.
  • To make sure the chemicals cure properly, ensure the environmental temperature is as follows: Chemicals should be above 70 degrees F, surfaces above 60 degrees F, and the ambient air above 60 degrees F. The higher the temperatures are, the faster the materials will cure.
  • If you stop the flow for more than 30 seconds, the materials will begin to cure and the nozzle will be blocked. To start spraying again, replace the nozzle with one of the replacement provided nozzles.
  • When you start insulating, spray the frame first and then fill in the space within. Let the frame cure before you apply extra layers.
