Celebrating International Women’s Day 2022

Zafin was founded on five core values; one of them is inclusivity. We are committed to providing a platform that embraces and makes space for every voice.

Each member of Team Zafin brings their own unique story, history and insights to our work, and that diversity fuels our forward-thinking culture. We gratefully acknowledge the unique talents and perspectives of each teammate, recognizing they are the foundation to Zafin’s success. We also recognize that even as we celebrate diversity, it comes with an equal responsibility to provide a level playing field that extends opportunity with equity.

We know we still have work to do at Zafin and in our industry to achieve greater gender equality, and we are pursuing that goal. We have many exceptional Women at Zafin, however, who are lifting up the women around them every day without fanfare or accolades. We asked them to share their perspectives on what this year’s International Women’s Day theme, Breaking the Bias, means to them.

Vineetha Abraham

Senior Vice President Engineering, Banking

Knowing that bias and inequalities exist, we need to consciously work to bridge the gaps in opportunity. Especially in technology-related fields, it is important to give opportunities to women to lead technology initiatives.

I am able to see firsthand, the drive and energy in women when a spot is provided, and how they rise up to the technical leadership expectations. Giving women the opportunity to lead, make decisions and empower others are key steps in reducing the bias in opportunity that exists today.

We can break the behavioral bias if we treat the workplace as gender neutral.

For me, it is irrelevant where it’s a man or a woman with whom I am interacting. I treat them the same in individual as well as group settings. In my role as a leader, I feel the tone that I set goes a long way in setting the workplace culture for the organization.

Micheline Chavigny

Internal Lead Support, Capital Markets

One part of my role is to help onboard new employees, and I take great pride in welcoming them to a company that truly values diversity, equity and inclusion. I uphold these principles by helping to foster a culture where everyone feels included, respected and heard.

Racine Evans

Senior Analyst, Banking

To eradicate bias requires a multi-faceted approach, I think. Representation is key, not just to “check a box”, but to create an environment in which all people have an equal opportunity to contribute to success without their ability to advance merely based on the gender, ethnic classification, religious or cultural background they present.

My goal during every interaction is to contribute to that change by always being open-minded and accepting of differences. That makes for a great team, environment and a better world for us all. I’m glad to be a part of a company that fosters these initiatives. Bias can be broken by actively engaging in healthy dialogues that stimulates learning and positive change without compartmentalizing people and/or groups based on subjectivity.

Joanne Fenwick

Partner Manager, Capital Markets

I am #BreakingtheBias by continuing to work in Fintech and making sure I have a team of women who I can rely upon to hold me up and help me see my strengths and not my weaknesses.

Loveness Rusike
Head of Customer Execution Programs, Capital Markets

I am intentional about supporting women, specifically younger girls, to look beyond gender when choosing their careers paths.

There is more room for women to continue to make a difference in Fintech. We just have to believe we are just as good as our male counterparts.
