Detroit, MI – Child Attacked, Killed By Dog on Pierson St

Detroit, MI (October 18, 2023) – A 4-year-old child was playing in his backyard on the west side of Detroit when he was attacked and killed by a dog on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the 9300 block of Pierson Street, according to authorities. The child’s family said that the neighbor’s dog jumped the fence and attacked the child.

Authorities have several canines in custody as they determine which one attacked. It’s unclear if any other citations or charges are expected as the investigation moves forward.

Our condolences go out to the deceased child’s loved ones and family members.

Wrongful Death Claims in Michigan

In the aftermath of an accident, making a claim with your insurance company or the insurance company of the at-fault party is often inevitable. A few phone calls to an insurance claims Adjuster can be all it takes to get a satisfactory settlement. Even if you have already taken the additional step of initiating a lawsuit, your case may be settled at any moment via negotiations. You or your lawyer should send the insurance company a well-organized demand letter and supporting paperwork before beginning compensation talks.

If someone else was responsible for your injuries or the death of a loved one and that person had liability insurance, your claim would be termed a “third-party” claim under the policy. Now, how exactly do bargains take place? Common procedures include the following:

  • If another party was to blame for your injury or the loss of a loved one, their insurance adjuster would write to you (by email, letter, etc.) to dispute the validity of your claims.
  • You might expect a settlement offer from a claims adjuster to be far lower than the amount you asked in your demand letter.
  • Usually, you’ll settle for an amount in the middle, but if you can’t, you can always go to court.

You and your lawyer will settle on a fair amount to seek damages. Before negotiating with the adjuster, choose the lowest figure that you’re prepared to accept from that range. You should keep this figure to yourself to know where you stand throughout negotiations with the adjuster.

If the adjuster finds evidence discrediting your claim that you and your lawyer missed, they may advise you to lower your expectations. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a car accident in Michigan, you need legal representation. A skilled lawyer can help you strengthen your case and collect the evidence you need to negotiate a favorable settlement.
