Detroit, MI – Rear-End Collision, Injuries on I-696 at Van Dyke

Detroit, MI (October 16, 2023) – Almost all left traffic lanes of westbound I-696 were shut down by a multi-car wreck and apparent rear-end collision on Monday, October 16, and the Detroit Police Department was called to the site of the incident to investigate.

The Accident shut down a portion of the highway ahead of the Van Dyke Avenue exit, according to a report from the Michigan Department of Transportation for Macomb County. Just before 8:30 a.m., the Detroit Police Department and the Michigan State Police arrived at the site and started their inquiry.

The Detroit Police Department also sought emergency medical help, as injuries were apparently sustained by at least one person. However, it is presently unclear how many people were hurt.

Detectives from the DPD are completing their inquiry and looking for any witnesses who may have further information. No new information has been given since then.

We are thinking about the injured victims and their loved ones at this time, and we hope for their full recovery.

Rear-End Wrecks in Detroit

Although handling the fallout after a vehicle accident in Michigan may be aggravating and uniquely difficult, there are a few straightforward steps you can take to protect your legal rights.

First and foremost, all drivers in Michigan should be aware that if injuries or property damage following a vehicle collision exceed $1,000, a police report must be filed. The accident site will be documented in full in the police report, together with the names and contact details of any witnesses and the names and policy numbers of any relevant insurance companies.

It is critical to get medical help right away after a crash, regardless of the apparent severity (or lack thereof) of your injuries. A victim’s quality of life might be negatively impacted even by relatively modest injuries. Additionally, it is crucial for injured parties to maintain thorough records as soon as any evidence of injuries or other symptoms develop in order to establish that the accident caused the victim’s ailments. Likewise, you should make an appointment with your doctor if you develop any new symptoms or injuries after starting treatment. Record the frequency and severity of any expenses, discomfort, and adjustments to your treatment regimen brought on by the accident.

To fully heal after an injury, keep in mind that you must participate in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and frequent examinations with your primary care physician. Furthermore, your claim and any potential legal action depend on your participation in a proper treatment plan. Insurance adjusters in Michigan frequently contend that an accident victim who refuses medical attention or frequently reschedules appointments with their doctors was not seriously hurt and is, therefore, ineligible for benefits or compensation.
