Detroit, MI – DUI Suspected in Deadly Collision on M-10/Lodge Fwy

Detroit, MI (October 11, 2023) – A 34-year-old Warren man was taken into custody by Michigan State Police on Tuesday night after he was suspected of causing a tragic collision on the Lodge Freeway, and authorities released additional details in connection with the incident on Wednesday morning.

At around 11:15 p.m., police were summoned to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on southbound Michigan Highway 10.

A Warren man was apparently speeding before the collision, as shown by the results of an initial inquiry. A passenger in the car, a 21-year-old male from Detroit, was declared deceased at the site.

One other person was also seriously hurt and remains hospitalized.

The driver declined to take a breathalyzer, but police are now obtaining a warrant to draw blood. Officers reported that they are waiting for the blood test findings and the prosecutor’s evaluation, but their inquiry continues in the meantime.

Our sincere condolences are with the deceased man’s family. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his loved ones in hopes of his full recovery.

Fatal Vehicle Accidents in Michigan

Hundreds of thousands of car accidents occur in the Great Lakes State every year, resulting in about 73,500 injuries. For a state with three million cars, that’s a shocking number of fatalities and injuries. Whether involved in a minor fender bender or a major head-on collision while driving in the Detroit area, you need to consult a highly experienced vehicle Accident lawyer to discover your options.

After a car collision involving another driver, you should take the following steps (in no particular order):

  • If possible, get the other driver’s insurance details, contact info, and license plate numbers. You’ll need to supply this information to your insurance carrier or the other driver’s insurance provider when filing a claim for compensation after an auto accident.
  • Make sure a police report is filed once you report the incident, which should be done as quickly as you can. Call 911 and report the crash as soon as possible.
  • If you can, take pictures or video of the accident site to document the injuries and property damage. If you ever find yourself in a situation where legal action is necessary, you will have these images and recordings as essential proof.
  • Inquire about witness information and try to get statements from them. It’s a decent thing to do, so most people will likely oblige your request.
  • Contact your insurance company and file a claim for no-fault coverage. Michigan is one of 12 no-fault states in the United States, meaning that an insurance company will pay for any losses, whether they be financial or otherwise, regardless of who was at fault.
  • Consult a personal injury attorney after your accident. A lawyer will know how to handle the steps above and walk you through your legal options.
