Howard Township, MI (September 27, 2023) – According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, a three-car collision occurred when one driver rear-ended another, causing the second car to collide with a third.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. west of the Leet Road and M-60 crossroads in Howard Township. The sheriff’s office said that one individual had been hurt. One 60-year-old Cassopolis motorist reportedly did an illegal U-turn on M-60 near Leet Road.

A second car, driven by an adult man, followed closely after the first. Cassopolis police said a 70-year-old motorist started slowing down on M-60 to wait for a slower car in front of him to make a turn. A 62-year-old woman from Cassopolis was also riding as the front passenger. According to the sheriff’s office, a 62-year-old woman from Three Rivers failed to yield and rear-ended the second car, causing it to smash into the first vehicle.

Per police, one passenger was injured in the collision and was brought by ambulance to Spectrum Health Lakeland Niles Hospital.

There is no evidence that alcohol had a role in this collision, though an investigation is ongoing. The Michigan State Police, the SMCAS Ambulance, and the Howard Township Fire Department all assisted at the scene.
