Pedestrian Collisions in Michigan

The hit-and-run statutes and other related regulations in Michigan make it unlawful to flee the site of an Accident without providing aid to wounded parties. A person might face up to 15 years in jail and a fine of $10,000 if they cause an accident that ends in death and then try to escape the scene. If the other motorist flees the scene of the accident, you should still call the police and your insurance company.

The state of Michigan defines a hit-and-run accident as one in which a driver is accused of causing an accident but flees the scene without giving their identity or identifying themselves.

Anyone wounded in a hit-and-run in Michigan has 24 hours from the time of the occurrence to file a complaint. You should also report the occurrence to your own no-fault auto insurance company.

Within the time frame stated by your policy, you must report the incident to your insurance carrier. The policyholder’s insurance coverage might be canceled if they fail to comply. What’s more, if you’ve been hurt in such an accident and are struggling to pay your obligations because of medical expenses or time off work, you should apply for no-fault benefits as quickly as possible to ensure you receive the money you’re owed.
