Interstate Car Accidents Across Michigan

The aftermath of a car Accident in Michigan is doubtlessly stressful and frustrating, but there are a few crucial things you can do to protect your rights. Because injuries sustained in car crashes can have far-reaching effects yet often appear minor at first glance, it’s essential that victims take steps to safeguard their legal rights from the beginning.

If you’ve been hurt in an accident and are wondering what to do next, consider the following:

  1. Call the police: A police officer can assist you in calling for an ambulance if you or a passenger in your car sustains injuries and needs medical attention. As mentioned above, it can take weeks for signs of an injury to manifest.
  2. Document the scene: Take plenty of pictures and video footage, if possible. Include photos of the roadway, the vehicles involved, and any injuries you may have suffered.
  3. Exchange contact information: Get the other driver’s contact details, including their name, address, phone number, insurance provider, license plate, and registration, so that you can file a thorough report with the police.
  4. Verify insurance coverage: Find out what coverage is available to you under Michigan’s No-Fault statutes. You can file a claim against the person who caused your accident for compensation, such as pain and suffering, even if your no-fault insurance covers your allowable healthcare expenditure benefits (medical expenses), interruptions to employment, and survivor’s loss benefits.
  5. Contact an attorney: Consult an experienced Michigan vehicle accident attorney without delay to begin gathering information for a possible claim. And remember to avoid signing any settlement offers related to your car accident unless you have spoken with an attorney specializing in injury cases.
