August consistently ranks as the principal month of the year for classic car sales. Last year’s Monterey Car Week saw a certain Aston Martin crowned the most expensive British car ever at the increasingly legendary annual Pebble Beach auctions.

The Pebble Beach Auctions – Gooding & Co.

August 24-25^th

 Whilst being a relatively new auction house, Gooding & Co ranks in the top classic car auctioneers in the world, and has produced countless memorable lots since its inception in 2003. The fast approaching Pebble Beach auction stands out as their most illustrious sale of the year.

Gooding & Co brags to be the official auction house of the world?renowned Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. It is also the only auction held within the gates of the famed 17?Mile Drive, a feat that holds them in high regard amongst classic car enthusiasts and collectors.

The 1935 Dussenberg SSJ, delivered new to Hollywood ion Gary Cooper is sure to be a firm contender for top spot.

The example offered is one of only two models ever produced, and according to auto blog, Gooding & Co have estimated the Dussenberg will fetch over $10 million when it goes under the hammer.

Quail Lodge Auction – Bonhams
Carmel, California
August 24^th

Bonham’s will once again return to the beautiful Monterey Peninsula for its 21^st annual Quail Lodge auction.

They will be looking to emulate 2017’s success after collecting $56 million total sales with a 90% success rate, proving this to be one of the largest and most respected automotive auctions of the year.

 
The 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta with Scaglietti-Design coachwork from legendary Pinin Farina will be a strong contender for top lot at this year’s Quail Lodge auction.

Although price estimates have not been released, expect a hefty price tag.

Monterey – RM Sotheby’s
Monterey, California
August 24-25^th

RM Sotheby’s is perhaps the most household name of all of the auction houses featured. After last year’s record-breaking Aston Martin sale, excitement continues to grow as RM Sotheby’s approaches its 30^th consecutive year in Monterey.

This year RM Sotheby’s will be looking to once again alter the record books, as the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO looks set to become the most expensive car ever offered at auction.

Considered the ‘golden years’ of Ferrari manufacture, this particular era has a seemingly infinite price limit for rare, collectable Ferrari 250 GTO’s.

This example is the third of only 36 models ever produced. It is a car that is steeped in racing history and offered in pristine condition, making it about as rare and desirable as it gets in the classic car market.

RM Sotheby’s have estimated the GTO will fetch over $45 million on the 24^th August, which will surpass Bonhams’ current world record sale of another 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO for $38 million back in 2014.
